LAST GAME: Binghamton snapped a four-game losing skid
and an eight-game losing streak at Waterfront Park with a
convincing 5-1 victory over Trenton Saturday night. Jenrry
Mejia led the way with his longest outing of 2010. The flamethrowing
right-hander tossed 4.1 scoreless innings with three
hits allowed. He walked two and struck out four. The bullpen
was superb in relief of the starter, working the final 4.2 innings
in one-run fashion. Eddie Kunz picked up the win with
2.2 innings of one-run work. Raul Reyes ripped a pair of doubles
in four trips to the plate and drove in two runs. Sean
Ratliff also managed two extra-base hits, a double and his
12th homer of the season. Daniel Brewer led the Thunder
with a 2-4 showing to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
Trenton starter Adam Warren was charged with the loss after
allowing five runs over five innings with eight strikeouts.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Josh Stinson will make
his 13th start of the season this evening for the B-Mets. Binghamton
is 12-0 in games started by the right-hander. He beat
Erie in his last start, August 1, with a 6.2 inning effort. Stinson
allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. He is 9-1 with a
3.47 ERA over 103.2 innings. His ERA ranks ninth-best in the
Eastern League. In 2009, he split the season between Savannah
(Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) and went 5-3 with eight
saves and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2 innings combined. The Mets
took the right-hander in the 37th round of the June 2006 draft
out of Northwood HS (LA).
RHP D.J. Mitchell is scheduled to oppose Stinson in his 21st
start of the season. He has ripped off five consecutive quality
starts, including his last, August 3 at Reading, where he
hurled six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits for a
no-decision. Mitchell is 8-4 with a 4.32 ERA over 114.2 innings.
He went 12-7 with a 2.63 ERA in 25 appearances, 24
starts, in 2009 between Charleston (Low-A) and Tampa (High-
A). Drafted by New York (AL) in the 10th round of the June
2008 draft out of Clemson.
