The Cyclones (34-16) fell to the Connecticut Tigers (27-23) on Sunday night by a score of 6-3. The loss is just Brooklyn’s fifth at home this season, and brings the team's overall record to 34-16, remaining nine games ahead of Hudson Valley for first place in the McNamara Division.
The Cyclones pitching staff put together a solid performance but was victimized by five errors that yielded four unearned runs. RHP Wes Wrenn (3-3) was saddled with his third loss of the season, despite surrendering just one earned run. Wrenn gave up five runs in total on six hits while striking out one over five innings of work. LHP Nelson Pereira came on in the sixth inning to pitch three frames, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two. RHP Samuel Taveras took the mound in the ninth, pitching one scoreless inning with two strikeouts to keep the Cyclones within striking distance, but Brooklyn did not muster a comeback.
Brooklyn’s offense scored two runs on six hits in this second of a three-game series. 1B Jeff Flagg went 1-for-3 with a home run to left field for his sixth home run of the season. LF Will Cherry recorded the only multi-hit performance of the game, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. DH Joe Bonfe, C Blake Forsythe, CF Darrell Ceciliani, and RF Cory Vaughn rounded out the offense, each tallying one hit apiece with Bonfe registering one run scored.
