LAST GAME: Binghamton ran out of pitching in a 10-4 loss to

Altoona Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium and was forced to

use two position players to absorb the final 2.1 innings. Marshall

Hubbard and Luke Montz acquitted themselves, getting

the final seven outs of the contest without allowing a run. The

damage had already been done, however, as the Curve mustered

10 unanswered runs in the fourth through sixth innings.

Matt Hague provided the game-winning hit with a three-run

double off Edgar Ramirez in the fifth inning, which vaulted

Altoona from a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Ramirez and Carlos

Muniz gave up all 10 runs over 3.2 innings of relief. Eddie

Kunz was forced into duty as the starter after Chris Schwinden

suffered an injury warming up for the game. Kunz acquitted

himself nicely with three, scoreless innings, allowing the BMets

to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Jose Coronado led the way

with a 3-for4 showing, including a double and two runs.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Dylan Owen will make a

spot-start tonight for the B-Mets in place of the recently promoted

Josh Stinson. Owen’s last start with Binghamton was

May 14 at Trenton when he tossed six, shutout innings and

limited the Thunder to one hit with a season-high eight

punchouts. He is 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA over 23 appearances (6

starts) spanning 63 innings. Opponents are hitting a low .228

against him. Owen made 23 starts for Binghamton last season,

chewing up a team-best 123 innings with a 4-10 record

and 5.93 ERA. He was the Mets 20th round selection in the

2007 draft out of Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.

LHP Tony Watson is due to make his sixth turn in the rotation

tonight for the Curve. Last time out, August 17 at Portland, he

worked a brief three innings and allowed two runs on six hits.

Watson is 4-2 with a 2.92 ERA over 30 appearances covering

86.1 innings and opposing hitters have managed a miniscule

.211 average against him. He made five starts for Altoona

last season before missing the remainder of the season

with left elbow tendinitis. The Pirates drafted the southpaw in

the ninth round of the June 2007 draft out of Nebraska
