PRESS RELEASE: - Tri-City 5, Brooklyn 2

The Brooklyn Cyclones lost Game One of the best-of-three New York-Penn League Championship Series on Saturday night, falling to the Tri-City Valley Cats by a score of 5-2. Brooklyn now faces elimination in a must-win Game Two at MCU Park on Sunday at 5pm.
Brooklyn jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Cory Vaughn blasted a two-run home run to left-centerfield after a J.B. Brown single. The home run was the first of the postseason for Vaughn, the Cyclones' record-setting slugger. Brooklyn, however, would not score again in the game.

The Valley Cats roared back with four runs in the third inning off of Brooklyn starter A.J. Pinera, aided in part by a Cyclones error on a potential double-play ground ball. Wes Wrenn came on in relief of Pinera in the fifth inning, and pitched one scoreles frame, but Tri-City added a run in the sixth inning on a home run by Marcus Nidiffer that made the score 5-2 in favor of the Valley Cats and both bullpens held the opponents scoreless the rest of the way.
