
Saturday night, Zach Wheeler had another strong outing and Wilmer Flores drove in 3 more runs..the Mets hold off the Dbacks 4-1. The Mets took a 2 run lead in the top of the 4
th when Juan Legares hit his 3
rd homer of the year and an rbi single by Flores brought home Ike Davis. Wheeler went 6 1/3 ..he allowed 6 hits..he walked none for the first time in his major league career and struck out 4. He gave up 1, that was a homer off the bat of Aaron hill in the top of the 7
th his 6
th of the year. Scott Rice relieved Wheeler, and the Dbacks went on to load the bases..but Rice retired Adam Eaton on a fielder choice to preserve the lead. In the top of the 7
th, the Mets added two more runs when Ike Davis was intentionally walked to load the bases for Flores, and Flores came through with a 2 run single to left to give the Mets a 3 run cushion. In the 8
th, Carlos Torres came in …and he allowed 3 hits and also loaded the bases, but with 2 outs and Pedro Feliciano came in and struck out Gerardo Parra to get of the jam and hold the lead. LaTroy Hawkins came in the bottom of the 9
th and notched his 3
rd save. Wheeler gets the win. He’s now 5-2. Brandon McCarthy gets the loss, he falls to 2-6. Offensively, the Mets collected 9 hits. They were led by Lagares, Davis and Flores with 2 hits apiece. Ike Davis has now reached base 20 out of his last 27 at bats. With the win the Mets improve to 53-61 on the year and 28-29 on the road. Sunday afternoon is the rubber game of the series. Jon Niese (3-6 4.32) makes his first start since injuring his rotator cuff for the Mets. Zeke Spruill (0-1 6.48) goes for Arizona.
