
Thursday Night in San Diego, Marlon Byrd broke a 1-all tie in the top of the 8th inning with this 23
rd double on the year bringing in 2 runs. The Mets snap their 3 game losing skid with a 4-1 win over the Padres. Prior to that hit, the game was a pitching duel between Zach Wheeler and Tyson Ross….Wheeler looked great going 6 innings, allowing 7 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 1 and struck out a new career high 12. Wheeler gets the no-decision but serves notice that he is not content to stay in Matt Harvey’s shadow. Ross allowed 1 run in 7 innings and k’d 8. The Mets scored the first run in the 4
th when a 2 out infield single by Josh Satin allowed a hustling Daniel Murphy to trot home with the game’s first run. In the bottom of the inning Jaff Decker’s bases loaded sac-fly tied the game at one. Ross was relieved in the 8
th by Luke Gregerson. Gregerson walked two and then yielded the two run double by Byrd. In the 9
th, Tim Stauffer yielding a line shot home run by John Buck (#15) to cap the scoring. Scott Atchison pitched a scoreless 7
th, Gonzalez German pitched the 8
th and 9
th for his first major league save. With the win the Mets improve to 55-64 overall and 30-32 on the road. Friday Night is game two of the series Jon Niese (4-6 4.45) goes for the Mets. New acquisition Ian Kennedy (4-8 4.97) goes for San Diego.
