FLASH: Zach Lutz Banished to Japan

According to Adam Rubin via ESPNnewyork, The Mets have sold the rights to 3B Zach Lutz to the Rakuten Eagles of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan.

In 59 AAA games this season, Lutz was hitting .291 with 7 HR and 37 RBI. With David Wright signed long term, and Wilmer Flores/Josh Satin as the back-up 3B on the 40 man roster, Lutz was blocked from ever being a contributor to the Mets organization.

(Man....that's too bad. Lutz was always a very solid bat who could just not stay healthy. Constant injuries allowed Satin and then Flores to both pass him on the depth chart. This leaves the AAA short on corner IF so perhaps a promotion for the 32 year old Brian Burgamy is in order.)

I'm happy for Lutz (I hope he is). He gets out of a blocked situation and could easily work his way back to another MLB team.

Certainly is a possible. He's already reached AAA once

The deal with Japan couldn't have been made unless Lutz requested it. He could've just asked for a trade or release, allowing him to play for another org.
Japan is what he prefers.
