Curtis Granderson led off the game for the Mets in the bottom
of the 1st with a solo homer (9), as the Mets go on to beat the
Padres Sunday at Citi Field 3-1. Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and
left after 1 inning with extreme stomach issues. The Met bullpen lead by Carlos
Torres went 8 innings of terrific relief. The Mets scored twice in the top of
the first on Granderson’s homer and an RBI double by Bobby Abreu. The Padres got a run back off Torres in the
top of the 2nd on a single by Rene Rivera but that was all they got.
The Mets made it 3-1 in the bottom of the 2nd on a sac-fly by Daniel
Murphy. Torres wen t 4 innings in relief
allowing just 3 hits, 1 run (earned) he walked 1 and struck out 4. Vic Black
tossed 2 scoreless allowing a hit, 2 walks and a strikeout. Jenrry Mejia put
injury doubts to rest pitching a scoreless 2 inning save his 7th on
the year. Torres got the win he’s now 3-4. Granderson batting leadoff went 2 for 3 with 2
walks getting on base 4 times, Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Ian
Kennedy was the starter and loser for the Padres, he falls to 5-8. The Mets
take two of three from the Padres and now stand at 31-38 on the season and
16-20 at home. The Mets are now off on a 7 game road trip. Monday night they start
a 3 game set in St. Louis. Carlos Martinez (0-3 4.67) goes for the Cardinals, Jacob deGrom (0-3 3.44) goes for the Mets.
