Plawecki continues to creep closer to being a viable major league catching alternative soon if the current Plan A sputters.
Since May 1, he is .380, with a slugging % over .600, and 16 extra base hits and 32 RBIs in 28 games. Only one strike out every 9 times up in that stretch too. Compelling.
Remember, there's a big difference between AA & MLB. d'Arnaud tore up AA before some untimely injuries have limited his playing time / continued development. He's going to get the rest of the season to try to work himself out. Some short term success / hot streak would really go a long way for his confidence. These top prospects are so used to succeeding that when they fail, its hard for them to adjust and rebound.
I'm not giving up on d'Arnaud but he's going to have to make adjustments. Watching the game last night, he was almost standing outside the batter's box making it impossible to cover the outside half. He got a decent pitch over the middle that he barely hit with the end of the back. Kind of saw the same thing from Wright when he came back after getting hit in the dome. I'm hoping some steady playing time and a nice hot streak will build his confidence up. Defensively, he threw a laser to nail Scherholtz last night. I know it was a terrible hit and run but it was a great throw and the starting pitchers are really doing their job right now. It seemed like him and Wheeler weren't on the same page early last night but worked through it.
I'm still on the Let The Kids Play train. Except Abreu. He needs to play instead of Chris Young who is just plain awful. Pretty sure Abreu would've driven in at least 1 run last night.
Start Abreu, Hitting rules. Chris Young can be his defensive replacement especially if they could ever get a few run lead.
