Hope we get a LHP an good left?

The 8 picks chosen today will give us a good feel for the draft philosophy this season.

An interesting pick here would be Oregon State OF Dylan Davis, teammate of Michael Conforto. He actually had more RBIs than Conforto.

The Mets could have some real balls and send both to Binghamton with Brandon Nimmo...

I always seem to enjoy day two more than day one...The Mets did a fantastic job finding a good mix of college hitters and projectable high school pitching last year

Michael Cederoth a right handed power arm from San Diego State was very highly regarded going into this season. He might be a nice pick at this point. Any reason he has fallen this far?

I haven't been truly happy on day one since the Matt Harvey pick.

It will be interesting to see if the Mets continue to draft college juniors that play positions that the team needs immediate help in.

There really aren't anymore college SS left worth taking early... I love either Wilson Ramos or Greg Deitchmann

There are a lot of interesting guys out there. Who are some guys with signability concerns besides Bukauskas?

And is Kel Johnson just the right handed high school version of Conforto?

Cederoth has had some command problems... 32-G, 55-K, 28-BB - 6-2, 2.28

Scouts say he's AA level ready - think Jack Leathersich

Kel Johnson had a lot of press early, but, being home schooled doesn't help his cause.

I'd think another OF would be great Mack. Yes, send them to Binghamton.

Baseball Reference lists all time rankings for guys. In discussing Met outfielders with my brother Steve, we both realized how extraordinarily few Met drafted outfielders who played a decent period of time with the Mets over the past 50+ years rank anywhere. For instance, Cleon and Mookie? Both in the high 800's on the all time list. Darryl? High 200's. Who else? Can't think of any.

I'd love to see them draft an OF guy that eventually turns out to be a top 250 all time player, even a few top 500 all time OF players. Is that too much to ask? Too many marginal guys that last a few years and fade away. We want a good OF? It is always through trades or free agency.

One more question, Mack.

I know some times it can be annoying to consider too many what if's.

You likely recall I had said that the Mets should have done everything in their power to lose game 162 last year, not by throwing it, but by playing only the kids, to avoid what happened - a come-from-behind one run win that slipped them from 7th to 10th pick.

Now that we see who went 7 through 9, any of those 3 guys you would have snatched in a heartbeat instead of Conforto if we had the 7th pick? Only if you wish to answer it.

Thomas -

Oh, that's easy...

Of the three, I would have taken Nola, Freeland, or Hoffman first...

Let me say something now that everyone can scroll back to someday and read what I said.

Passing on either Jeff Hoffman or Tyler Beede will be the two biggest mistakes the Mets (and other teams) did in this draft.

Morning Mack:
I was curious where do you believe they start Conforto?? SAV-STL-BRK? I doubt they'll push him str8 to Bingo. But think he could start in Sav,when Nimmo goes to Bingo he'll take his spot in StL. Also the Mets never passed on Hoffman he was taken 9th by Tor just before the Mets pick. Another day lets see were it takes them? Don't think we'll see the PTNL, for a bit. Its 1 year after that player signed with Pittsburgh.

I think Conforto will take over LF for St. Lucie.

This would be a nice place to take a chance on the injured Dylan Cease

And they draft your guy Mack!!!!

Good point about scrolling back, Mack. Any chance you can go through the archives in the next few weeks and give us your draft day comments of the last 2 or 3 Mets drafts?

I'll see what I can do when I get back in town.
