This is a difficult time for Mets fans. It's also worn out a fair amount of Mack's Mets writers.
I just want to let you know that the site isn't going anywhere. I'll continue to feature my Morning Report which is full of both fact and opinion.
I want to thank Thomas Brennan for stepping in and writing the Sunday morning reports. Herb G. starts us off with his Minor League Report, Wally Murphy posts up Sand Gnats recaps every home game, Reese Kaplan continues his twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) posting and Craig Mitchell has added a Monday morning post as well wrapping up each Mets game at night.
Coming up next week, Christopher Soto will begin to update the Mets Top 25 Prospects.
For now, we continue to post information on the draft picks. That runs out next week and we'll do what we can to find some more original material to post to the site.
Lastly, we're always looking for some help around here so if you'd like to become a Mack's Mets writer, please email me at macksmets@gmail.com.
Jack Leathersich has struck out at least two hitters in 16 of his last 22 games.

I’ve read an awful lot of Twitter messages recently about Phil Jackson, his supposed assistant
coaches, and the general regard of what the other players in the league think.
All of a sudden, everybody thinks being a Knick is a good thing. It’s amazing
how quick things can change with the right leadership and an owner stepping out
of the picture while still allowing the correct money to be spent.

Jay
(NJ) - I know that you aren't worried about Dominic
Smith as he's been given a tough assignment for his age and playing in a poor hitter's ballpark. Do you see him moving to High Class A next
year despite his average #s?
Keith
Law - Yes, I do. Nimmo didn't appear to hit that well there last year either.
Mack – It’s going to be interesting to see where the Mets
assign all these first basemen they drafted this year. Trust me, if you see one
on Savannah, and none assigned to St. Lucie, then there is probably a good
chance that Smith could be bumped up there this year.
Frank
(NY) - So Conforto ahead of Thor. Thor slipped a bit or is Conforto Top 25ish
overall? I understand you leaning hitting over pitching when breaking a tie,
but that's higher than I would have thought you'd have him. Good news as a Met
fan if he is really that good.
Klaw - Thor has slipped a bit, in part because
he's had minor injury issues this year. I think he's a .400 OBP guy with 20 HR
who can play average defense in left.
Mack – I never know if Law is being serious when he
writes about the Mets. That being said, ranking him as the #1 prospect in the
system is quite aggressive and impressive at the same time.
If we assume Law is right… and all the other people that are
writing such good stuff about this guy are also correct… we have ourselves a
future LFer with a decent arm, adequate defense, and a killer bat.
This will probably be your future #5 hitter come 2016,
which again projects that outfield as being him, Brandon Nimmo, and Curtis Granderson.
This could be ample reason not to invest anymore long term
money into the outfield right now.
Bryan
(Montclair, NJ) - d'Arnaud has had a good couple of days since being sent down
to Vegas, but I'm still worried about his long term development considering
that he has missed so much playing time with various injuries. Do you still
think he'll hit in the bigs?
Klaw (2:00 PM) - I'm far more concerned about his
ability to stay healthy than whether he'll hit. He's had at least 3
concussions, multiple knee issues, a broken finger, and I think one back
problem - and that's just what we know.
Mack – Sounds grim.
You can’t hit at this level if you’re not at 100%. And
professional athletes are well known for not crying out loud about their
boo-boos.
Law reduces the history of d’Arnaud’s career to long range
concerns as a battery mate. It’s tough to kneel all night behind the plate on a
good night. Try to imagine all the bumps and grinds listed above and then being
asked to hit .300 to boot.
Here’s another problem. All those injuries are no big secret
around the league. Right now, I would venture to guess that he is close to
impossible to move in a trade.
We all know that Kevin Plawecki is waiting in the wings. He should get a call to Las Vegas as
soon as d’Arnaud is called back to Queens (probably not until mid-July).
My thoughts… very few teams have two great catching
prospects, even if one should have already progressed into a major factor in
the majors. This is a team that has to shape from within and I just don’t see
a future problem at this position. Give d’Arnaud the rest of this season to
turn the year around and let the two of them come to camp next year and compete
for the staring position.

First about Smith going to high A.
If you look at his overall stats there not impressive but you need to look closer. In April he hit just over .200. In May and June he is hitting around .315. In his last 10 games he is hitting .350. He was over matched when the Mets aggressively placed him in full season A ball. He quickly made the adjustments which has impressed me. The one thing he is still lacking is power numbers. I don't care about home runs, considering his home park but I would like to see more double. He only has 10 and that accounts for all his extra base hits.
Conforto as number 1 in the Mets system is a joke. Syndergaard is ranked 10th in the minor leagues by MLB. Conforto was picked 10th n the draft. The Mets picked to fill a need not to take the best player available so he is not even 10th in the draft. Likely he will be a Duda but with far less defensive ability. At best his projections seem to be a Mike Napoli but a much worse fielder. I would much rather have Plawecki than Conforto. Plawecki is going to be a better hitter and his defense is light years ahead of Conforto.

I've noticed when you talk about our 2016 outfield, you never mention Lagares. Assuming he continues at the level he has this year, do you really think Nimmo is a better CF? Or will Nimmo's being Alderson's 1st first round pick influence his progress. I've never seen Nimmo play, but it seems like Lagares will be hard to displace.
Switching to TDA, I hadn't considered his injury histort. Think he's too good to end up as a backup behind Plawecki, or whit the scarcity of catchers, do you figure eventually someone would trade for him (assuming he continues to have problems hitting at the ML level).
Al Tamkus ·
would you trade Plawecki, in a package to fill a need? S/S or a Clean-up hitter?
Richard -
Look for the Mets to send Smith to a strength camp in the off season, similar to the one that Flores and Tejada participated in this off-season (Detroit)
Sheesh.....I must be the Rodney Dangerfield of Macks Mets.......
Steve -
I saw over two years of Lagares early in his career and half a season of Nimmo (I didn't attend the rest of the games). I believe, in the long run, Nimmo will get the job for a myriad amount of reasons including political ones
As for trading Plawecki, I hope not. I hope the Mets hold on to him until they feel that d'Arnaud is past all his bumps and grinds... then put him on a hook and stick it in the ocean.
I still feel we all will be very happy with d'Arnaud in the end.

what's wrong?
Lol.........where's my thank u for a year and a half worth of 1x/wk posts?
I'm like the red headed step child here. .............wah......
" This will probably be your future #5 hitter come 2016, which again projects that outfield as being him, Brandon Nimmo, and Curtis Granderson"
Really? Giving up on Lagares already? By 2016, Grandy will be on the 3rd year of his deal, and unless he finds the Fountain of Youth (I wish I could) will probably be a part-timer at best. Unless Lag proves to be a bubble about to burst, a la Kirk in '12, I fully expect him to be in CF..
Morning Mack and Co.
Richard Jones, who pissed in your corn flakes this morning? Can we give Conforto (Pac 10 Player of the Year X2, consensus top hitter in the draft) a bit of time before we condemn him to the land of Lucas Duda?
Mack, why not parlay our riches behind the plate into a tag team? As you mentioned, that position is tough on your body, so splitting the games (81 and 81, give or take a few starts) would theoretically keep both players healthier (and it would add a nice bat to the bench). Plus, Plawecki may end up playing a few games here and there at 1B.
Lastly, public and player perception of the Mets will only change when they start winning, IMO.
Ernest -
Oboy...
My apologies for forgetting you.
Bill -
fine Bill... just don't bite me in the neck with your opinion
I view any Conforto ranking the same way I currently view all preaseason ncaa football/basketball rankings. .......oh how nice....wake me when we halfway through the season.

I can't comment on platoons because I hate them. I'm sorry.
As for winning, it is the cure for everything.
Mack -
I didn't state myself clearly in my last post. My question was: If TDA's hitting doesn't improve much over what we have seen at the ML level, do you think TDA will end up as a backup to Plawecki, or would we trade him (TDA) for what we could get? Or would we keep him, warts and all, as our starter?
I think he has absolutely no trade value right now and, if he doesn't get his act together (when he gets back to Queens) he will either become the backup to Plawecki in 2015 or DFA'd for a player to be named.
Remember, we still have Centeno who looks like he could be a very good backup to Plawecki.
I don't think d'Arnaud has any more rope left after the end of this season, but that's just me.
I don't bite, Mack. ;)
