This is a great move. Even though he might lack top of the rotation stuff, adding another young arm to the mix. Even though he might lack the ceiling of a higher round pick, I hope that he can continue to progress and develop into a valuable pitcher for us.
There are a fair amount of high reward, high ceiling high schoolers the Mets picked this year that Baseball America has ranked them much higher than the Mets drafted them.
On the surface, this looks like a rewarding draft... in around 4 years.
I agree. Even though the Mets might not have drafted or at least signed someone who looks like a front line guy, taking this many young arms is a great strategy. While some will flame out or not develop, you hope that some of them reach their ceiling and if we are lucky, one or two will exceed their ceiling and really become an impact talent.
John - thank you for your comments tonight on the site.
The more time I spend looking at what the Mets did in this draft, the more I see that they picked players that Baseball America had ranked much earlier than when the Mets picked them, this making them a very good pick. Why each one fell to this level may be individual stories, but there is a good chance we'll find ourselves a couple of very good players here.
