Minor League Recap - 5-10-15

Three losses in 3 games due to light hitting and weak relief pitching, on a night Steve Matz proved he is ready to be a major league starter. A darned good one.

Minor League Player of The Night - Steve Matz, the finest minor league lefty starter money can buy.

Honorable Mention - let's give it to Wilfredo Tovar for 3 hits and his 8th steal of the season, not bad for a guy with just 9 strikeouts this year.

AAA - Las Vegas - (21-10) 2 - El Paso (19-12) 3

    RHSP Steven Matz -  7.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 7-K, 2-BB, 1.70

Mack - Well, it becomes more obvious every outing that Steven Matz is ready for the big leagues. The problem is, as we all know, there simply is no place to send him. Trust me... he and Noah Syndergaard will NEVER be part of any future Mets trade and their destiny is to join both Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey is a future superstar rotation. My assumption is that the 5th member of this some day will be Zack Wheeler, thus, we are back to ground zero when it comes to trading one of the current rotation pitchers for a shortstop or corner outfielder.

Right now, Jon Niese would be your prime trade bait, but is Sandy Alderson ready to give up on either Michael Cuddyer, Curtis Granderson, or Wilmer Flores?

    SS Wilfredo Tovar -  3-5, .307

    RHRP - Cory Mazzoni -  2.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 0.63

Mack - Yeah I know... he pitches for the other guys now... but I couldn't help but list his stats which have been lights out since he started to pitch for El Paso.

Chase Bradford spit up the 51's 2-0, 9th inning lead, allowing 3 runs in .1 inning, his first poor outing of 2015.

AA - Akron (13-17) 9  - Binghamton (18-12) 4

    RHSP  John Gant -   5.0-IP, 7-H, 4-R, 4-K, 4-BB, 4.78

    3B Josh Rodriguez  -  2-5, 1-R, double, .330

    CF Brandon Nimmo -  2-3, triple, .293

Beck Wheeler's 4 runs in relief raised his ERA to an ungainly 9.00. Lower it by 8 runs a game and the Mets will start to show interest.

A+ - St. Lucie -  no games scheduled.

All Moms named Lucie everywhere were happy these boys had more time for their Moms.

A - Hickory (21-8) 3  - Savannah (11-18) 2

    RHSP Martirez Arias -  7.1-IP, 9-H, 2-R, 6-K, 1-BB, 3.23

    SS Luis Guillorme -  3-5, 1-RBI, .316

    3B Eudor Garcia -  2-4, double, .417

Arias surrendered his 2nd run in the 8th inning.  Alberto Baldonado took the loss in the 10th inning.
GOATS: Bradford and Beck, for not missing bats.

Tovar seems to be the Bud Harrelson type, low power, good contact, good on base, plus defensive fielder, some speed. Unlike Buddy, he seems stuck in AAA. Too much competition For poor Wilfredo.p2 e r3

Further down the food chain, SS Luis Guillorme seems to have much in common skills-wise with Tovar. Luis continues to hit very well for the Gnats.
