The Sand Gnats and Crawdads finished a game in nine-innings for the first time this series. The Gnats took game three at L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday, 6-3.
The Gnats (12-18) started the game off with a bang, when 1B Stefan Sabol crushed a two-run home run in the first. JC Rodriguez singled earlier in the inning and scored on Sabol's homer giving the Gnats the 2-0 lead.
Hickory (21-9) didn't waste any time cutting into the Gnats lead, when 2B Travis Demeritte doubled and scored in the bottom half of the first inning.
Jonathan Johnson added a homer of his own in the second. Johnson extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Sand Gnat starter RHP Scarlyn Reyes (2-3, 3.86) allowed just two runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Reyes picked up the win in his fifth start of the season.
John Mora led off the ninth with a walk and scored on a RBI single from Sabol. Rodriguez scored his second run of the game on a single from Eudor Garcia. Johnson plated Sabol with a sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.
With the Gnats up 6-2, Marcus Greene walked in the ninth. Greene scored what would be the final run of the game on an RBI single by Josh Morgan.
RHP Ricky Knapp picked up the save in his 2015 Sand Gnats debut. Knapp allowed just one run on three hits in three innings of work. Team press release
