Dominic Smith wins FSL Player of the Week Award

ESPN

St. Lucie Mets first baseman Dominic Smith has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the period of May 25-May 31.

In six games last week Smith went 10 for 26 (.385) with five doubles, his first FSL home run and 10 RBIs. He scored six runs and had an OBP of .385. His slugging percentage was .692.

Smith hit a two-run walk-off homer in the 11th inning on Saturday against Fort Myers. In his first three at-bats on Sunday he had two singles, one double and four RBIs. He is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak. Smith has hit safely in 19 of the last 21 games and has 12 extra base hits in his last 15 contests.

Smith was the Mets first round draft pick in 2013. He was chosen 11th overall out of Serra High School in Los Angeles, Calif. At 19 years old, he is the fourth youngest player in the FSL.

Smith becomes the fourth Mets player this season to win a FSL Player of the Week award. Left fielder Michael Conforto earned the honor twice and pitcher Robert Gsellman was the Pitcher of the Week in early May. Both were promoted to Double-A Binghamton last week.
