JUPITER, Fla. (May 22, 2021) – The Palm Beach Cardinals rallied for a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun the St. Lucie Mets 6-5 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday.
With the Cardinals trailing 5-4 and down to their last strike, Carlos Sotos ripped a game-tying RBI single into right field against Mets closer Reyson Santos. Jacob Buchberger followed with an infield single deep in the hole at short that plated LJ Jones from third base for the winning run.
That loss spoiled a terrific comeback effort for the Mets, who did not have a hit through 5.2 innings and were trailing 4-0 after the sixth.
The Mets scored three runs in the seventh inning to cut their deficit to 4-3. Tanner Murphy got the Mets on the board with a RBI double. Jaylen Palmer and Jose Colina drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to make it 4-3.
Francisco Alvarez delivered a go-ahead two-out, two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.
Matt Cleveland induced an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the eighth to get out of trouble and keep the Mets in front by a run.
However, the Cardinals were able to mount the bottom of the ninth comeback to snap the Mets five-game winning streak. The Mets had previously been 10-0 when leading after the eighth.
The Cardinals won despite walking 12 batters and plunking four batters.
The Mets (12-5) and Cardinals (6-11) conclude their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday at noon.

Alvarez continues to hit and get on base. Wonder when he gets bumped to Brooklyn?
My guess all-star break
Is it possible to see him in the show at the end of 22'? If he's as good as it seems and we have our own Soto/Acuna type player who both were in the bigs at 19 and 20 respectively why not.
They are pitching around Alvarez way too much. He needs to get promoted sooner than later for his own development.
Also, the Mets need to figure out their core...is it Baty, Alvarez, Mauricio, Crow-Armstrong? Obviously, Crow-Armstrong is hurt but as much as possible the new core needs to play together. Also, with Lindor at SS for the next 7-10 years (if could possibly get a position change at end of contract), they need to figure out a new position for Mauricio now. If it is 3B, where does Baty go? Lots of decisions to be made but I feel the core should be established and play together as much as possible.
