Alvarez returns to lineup, goes 1 for 3 with a single and walk
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 15, 2021) – The Daytona Tortugas turned in a strong performance on the mound in a 5-1 victory over the St. Lucie Mets on Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Tortugas starter James Proctor held the Mets to one run on a wild pitch over five innings. He scattered three singles, struck out eight and walked just two.
Relievers Nick Hanson and Tanner Cooper combined to keep the Mets hitless over the final four innings. Cooper picked up the nine-out save.
Francisco Alvarez returned to the Mets lineup after missing the previous two games and went 1 for 3 with a single, walk and a run.
Daytona scored the game’s first run in the first inning on a RBI double by Alex McGarry. The Tortugas scored two more runs off of Mets starter Joander Suarez in the second inning. Danny Lantigua knocked a RBI single and Michel Triana scored on an error to make it 3-0.
Alvarez scored from third base on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to cut the Mets deficit to 3-1.
McGarry got the run back in the fifth inning on a long solo home run. Triana scored the final run of the night on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Suarez settled in after a tough start and gave the Mets four solid innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Shervyen Newton and LT Struble each had a hit.
The Mets (7-4) and Tortugas (6-5) wrap up their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Sunday at 5:35 p.m.
