Mack's Mock Pick - #48 - 3B - Izacc Pacheco

Izacc Pacheco

Mack's spin -

We now have gone through both the stud and to shelf prospects in this draft and we move on to the secondary level.

The bats will stand out first.

Early on, I had Pacheco as a late first round pick, but he was passed by others because of what they did thing year, not anything that he did wrong.

Simply put, Pacheco hits like Brett Baty and plays a better third.

16. Miami Marlins: Izaac Pacheco, 3B, Friendswood HS (TX)

While this year’s crop might not be deep, there are names that we’ll be talking about years from now. Izaac Pacheco is one of those names. The state of Texas has been producing some very good hot corner prospects. Pacheco fits the mold. He compares to Brady House more than any third baseman in this draft. Miami would drool over this guy.

27. 3B Izaac Pacheco | School: Friendswood HS, TX | Commit: Texas A&M | B / T: L / R | Ht: 6’4 | Wt: 220 | Age: 18.5

Likely the best LH Power in the prep class, giving James Wood a run for his money. Legitimate 70 Raw Power that should be able to tap 60 Game Power rather easy even if the hit tool never develops past a 35. I have Pacheco marked down as a Future 40 Hit (even if it ends a 35), which in my eyes is going to be an easy path to 30+ HR yearly in that bat. With 40 HR a real possibility in some seasons. Works a high amount of walks but will strike out a high rate. Potential 3 true outcome, but there is a bit of feel for the barrel that comes and goes. Very athletic for his size and smooth on the infield dirt, Has looked capable of handling SS but a much butter fit at 3B long-term where his footwork and glove skills will transfer naturally. Also a fit in RF due to the big power and arm strength. Similar to Joey Gallo.

I don’t know much about Izaac Pacheco’s personality, attitude or temperament, but the physical tools are absolutely tantalizing. I do think he has one of the higher ceilings in this entire draft class.

Seattle is in the market for infielders, though prep infielders might not be the mold they’re specifically targeting. Jerry Dipoto and Scott Hunter have to really love a prep profile to buy in in the first round. I do think Pacheco is a viable value at pick no. 12. Whether or not he fits the profile they’re looking for remains the question.

Pacheco is likely a day-one selection come July, so Seattle will likely get one crack at the Texas A&M commit before he’s off the board.

7. Izaac Pacheco, SS, Friendswood (Texas) HS

Pacheco is one of the better-hitting shortstops in the class, even if his size (6'4", 220) makes it likely he will eventually slide to third base. The left-handed hitter should have plenty of future power, although it comes with strikeout concerns.

Izaac Pacheco – Pacheco has a pretty left-handed swing and the potential for plus-plus power down the road. He’s a solid defender, but he’s only going to get bigger, so his future home is at third base.

39. Izaac Pacheco, SS, Friendswood HS (TX)

Pacheco offers some real thump from the left side of the plate. He also offers some real swing-and-miss that has some scouts concerned about his ability to hit for average. On defense, he seems probable to outgrow shortstop as he matures, likely leading to a shift over to the hot corner. He has a commitment to Texas A&M.

21. Izaac Pacheco, SS, Friendswood (Texas) HS

Areas To Improve: Contact ability, hit with impact to opposite field

Pacheco has a sweet lefthanded swing with plenty of power projection based on his strength now and future physical projection, but needs to show better barrel ability. Scouts thought his swing could get a bit leveraged and grooved at times last summer, and he also showed a tendency to get too pull-heavy in his approach. His power potential is tantalizing and he has a chance to be an athletic defender at third base, but he’ll need to show more out of his pure hit tool in Texas.

If picturesque swings and muscular, projectable bodies are your thing, Pacheco might be your guy in the 2021 prep class. A 6-foot-3, 210-pound shortstop committed to Texas A&M, Pacheco is a power-oriented lefthanded hitter with a fluid swing and quick hands in the box. Pacheco has a fluid and quick lefthanded swing that is geared for power now, and he projects for at least plus juice in the future with present strength and bat speed, and more room to fill out. While scouts have praised an advanced approach at the plate, Pacheco does come with some swing-and-miss concerns and he has had trouble tapping into his power in game situations throughout the summer. Like many of the top shortstops in the 2021 class, Pacheco is fine at the position now, but most scouts believe he will shift over to third in the future. He has solid hands and more than enough arm strength for either position, but scouts believe as he fills out he won’t have the range and quickness for shortstop, making him a solid fit at the hot corner.

Toronto Blue Jays

A year after bottoming out and lucking into Austin Martin, the Blue Jays could find themselves taking advantage of a class flush with prep infielders, nabbing a power hitting corner infield type. Izaac Pacheco is not as well regarded as well as Brady House, but he probably has the best or second best prep power. Pacheco is an above average fielder, but a below average runner which has already cemented his pro position at the hot corner. Still, Pacheco has tremendous physicality and greater value as a lefthanded bat. What determines his standing in the first round is plate adjustments. Like House, he sold out for power too much and ended up striking out more than usual. If he can shorten his swing, he could justify his first round value.

21. Chicago Cubs: Izaac Pacheco, 3B, Friendswood HS (TX)

Pacheco is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound slugger who has experience playing shortstop. He likely shifts to third base where his plus-plus power potential will play. The infielder has some issues with his approach and he could be a high strikeout player. He also has the chance to be a plus defender at the hot corner. Back-to-back preps in the first round for scouting director Dan Kantrovitz.

Izaac Pacheco has premium bat speed + an advanced approach at the plate. He's the top name in an Aggie Baseball 2021 recruiting class that ranks No. 11 in the country
