Side Note: Winter League Rosters are not always 100% accurate so I scour the box scores in detail everyday just to make sure I get everyone. Jairo Perez was 1 guy that I missed...on the Cardenales roster, he is listed as a non-MLB player when we all know he is a NY Met farmhand. So what has he done so far? Well he's played in all 7 games so far and he is raking to the tune of a .321 AVG with 1 HR, 8 RBI, and a fabulous 10.3% K rate.

Position Battles Worth Watching: 13 Pitchers, 3 Bullpen Spots

One of the largest fights this Spring Training, as it is every season, will be for the final spots within the bullpen. This year only 4 guys are really guaranteed spots going into the season; RH Bobby Parnell, RH Victor Black, RH Carlos Torres, and LH Scott Rice. That leaves 3 spots left in a normal 7 man bullpen. Let's break this battle into two separate sections and assume that the team will carry 2 lefties this year.

Battle to be the 2nd Lefty
Favorites- Josh Edgin
Guys w/ a Chance- (none)
Longshots- Adam Kolarek

This is more of a minor ST battle that probably won't be a fight at all. While Josh Edgin is the incumbent and most likely winner, he was heavily criticized last season for his atrocious start. In 11 April appearances, Edgin held a 9.64 ERA and allowed a .325/.386/.525 batting line in mostly low leverage situations. Even worse, after being sent down to both AA and AAA, Edgin did not improve posting ERA's of 7.88 and 5.91 respectively. Edgin also suffered a season ending injury in August

Adam Kolarek, meanwhile, had a career best year for the Binghamton Mets making appearances in 44 games and posting a 1.71 ERA and holding lefties to a .214 AVG and only 3 extra base hits all season. His low 90's fastball has a two plane break away from lefties which induces plenty of weak contact. He combines it  with an advanced change-up and a newly added slider which makes him just as effective against righties as well.

While Kolarek has looked good, Edgin has looked good in bursts at the MLB level and is on the 40 man roster. The team is almost certain to give Edgin at least one more chance while Kolarek gets some work in at AAA but he'll give Edgin a run for his money this ST. Don't be surprised if you start to hear his name more often if Edgin gets off to another rough start.

Royal Rumble over Last Two Spots
Favorites- Jeurys Familia, Gonzalez Germen
Guys w/ a Chance- Ryan Reid, Joel Carreno, Miguel Socolovich, Kyle Farnsworth
Longshots- Jeff Walters, Chasen Bradford, John Church, Cory Mazzoni, Logan Verrett, Jack Leathersich

Both Familia and Germen are expected to be major players in the bullpen this season but they may receive some stiff competition from recent minor league contracts signings in Reid, Farnsworth, Carreno, and Socolovich.

The 29 yr old Reid had a career year in AAA last year and earned an 11 inning cup of coffee at the MLB level where he performed well in all but 1 of his appearances.

The former Blue Jay, Joel Carreno, brings eye popping K rates into the competition thanks to a plus slider that's extremely tough on righties. In 2013 he held righties to a .101 AVG while striking out 41% of them.

Lastly, there's the journeyman, Miguel Socolovich. The 27 yr old Venezuelan spent time in Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, and most recently in Japan for 2013. He didn't rack up many innings there (11.1) but he only allow 1 ER in his short time there.

The rest of the guys are longshots to make the team but, with chance to showcase their abilities, good performances could lead to potential promotions to the MLB level in case of injuries or ineffective by the other guys. Walters should be the 1st in line though since he is on the 40 man roster already.

Mack’s Morning Report – 1-11 – ST Invitees, John Church, Tom Glavine, ZIPS Pitching, Brandon Nimmo

Non-Roster ST Invitees –

RHPs - Chase Bradford, Joel Carreno, John Church, Jeremy Hefner, Rafael Montero, Miguel Socolovich, Noah Syndergaard, Cory Mazzoni, Logan Verrett

LHPs - Adam Kolarek, Jack Leathersich

Catchers - Taylor Teagarden, Kevin Plawecki

Infielders - Brandon Allen, Eric Campbell, Anthony Seratelli, Daniel Muno

Outfielders - Dustin Lawley, Cory Vaughn, Brandon Nimmo

Mack – There are multiple reasons these guys get invited to Big Boy Camp.

One… have you ever watched a pre-season game? If you have, you know that by the 5th or 6th inning all starters have hit the showers. In fact, as the pre-season rolls on, more and more players are invited over from ‘the other site of the complex’ to grab their glove and help finish a game. It is a matter of numbers.

Two, in many cases, this is actually the first time people like Terry Collins will get a chance to see some of the prospects play. None of the Mets coaches have seen someone like Nimmo so the Mets field brass will get an opportunity to see firsthand what’s down the pipeline.

And three, it’s just a wonderful thing to reward a player with going through the system. I talked last night with John Church’s mother and, according to her, he’s on ‘Cloud Nine’ about this. So is Kevin Plawecki. These guys have been playing baseball since T-Ball and this begins the reward they had hoped to get someday out of this game.

(speaking of Church, here is your typical workhorse kind of pitcher (23rd round) that just goes out there and does his job every night. His mother reminded me that I am basically the only writer that has followed him and said anything supportive about him. What has John done? Over five seasons for five Mets clubs: 20-14, 3.41, 1.34, 185-G, 319.0-IP, 277-K, 135-BB. In Las Vegas last year: 23-G, 3-0, 3.21.)

I’ve stopped going to these games due to my inability to drive alone and, when I did, I never really got to know any of these players very well. They are taught early to be careful around news people, especially the ones that don’t come off as a beat reporter. Still, you see them enough so, in the future, if they walk by you in spring training, you might get an occasional nod.

What you do get, as a writer, is the feeling of being a distant uncle as you watch them ascend through the various affiliate levels. And, you smile on days like yesterday, when you see your ‘nephew’ do good.

David Wright on Tom Glavine –

Glavine wasn't worried about jinxing his Hall of Fame candidacy. He knew the credentials he had created at that point of what became a 22-year career would open all doors in Cooperstown. He declined because it was the proper response.

David Wright was apprised of that anecdote two days later -- David Wright, who lives his life by a code similar to Glavine's.

"Would you expect Tom to do anything else?" Wright said. "I have so much respect for him. You can learn a lot about being a good person and being a professional by watching Tom Glavine."

Mack – No one is ever going to call Glavine an ex-Mets pitcher, though he did start for them for five years. The fans will also always reserve their opinion of him on his last outing, sort of like that infamous Carlos Beltran non-swing. Still, in 2006 and 2007, Glavine went 28-15, pitching 398.1 solid innings. There was no trading here. He came in a free agent, declined a $13mil one-year contract option with the Mets for 2008, and signed instead back with the Braves for $8mil. It simply was never the same.

Is he part of Mets history?  Definitely.

ZIPS Pitching –

Mets supporters with a sensitive disposition might want to avoid inspecting the pitching projections for their club below — mostly, that is, because heroic and tragic Matt Harvey‘s name appears atop everyone else’s. ZiPS doesn’t know that he’s likely to miss all of 2014, just that he recorded a total of 178.1 innings in 2013 and was excellent while so doing.

More than has been the case with other clubs in this ongoing release of ZiPS, it’s the case with the Mets that the five pitchers most likely to begin the season in the rotation aren’t necessarily the five considered most qualified by Dan Szymborski’s computer math. Ranked solely by projected WAR, both Rafael Montero (1.5 zWAR) and Noah Syndergaard (1.4 zWAR) would merit a place in the opening-day rotation. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-zips-projections-new-york-mets/

Mack – I talked briefly with Dan about this and didn’t share what I’m writing here.

It’s nice to see both Montero and Syndergaard’s name here as projected Mets pitchers in 2014, but how serious can you take a computer sheet that also projects the likes of Stephen Matz and Matt Fox making this team?

ZIPS… Steamer… Oliver… all a waste of paper.

Brandon Nimmo Injury Splits –

            Prior to April 20 (pre-injury): .392/.489/.527

April 20 through July (injured): .207/.330/.282

August through end of season (recovering): .315/.468/.398

And most this was accomplished in a home field pitchers dream of pitching in.

Nimmo is a very young baseball player with a limited amount of experience. He has one of the nicest swings I have ever seen. Sort of hangs the bat just off his shoulder and follows through with excellent bat speed.

The power we haven’t seen yet could be dependent on what he did this off-season. I interviewed him last year with 1B Jayce Boyd and Nimmo was very impressed that Boyd had gained 15 pounds off muscle in the off-season. Hopefully, that’s what we’ll see here once camp opens.

Deadspin -

I guess turning over a vote to an entity consisting of your cronies is fine, and turning one over to an entity consisting of baseball fans isn't. QED. Whatever, though. For our part, we'd like to acquire another vote next year. We think we have a decent line on one, and it wouldn't hurt to get another. The first, we'd hand over to the public. The second? Who knows. Maybe we'll give it to Dan Le Batard.
(This is going to take a few days to go away…)

Jerry Crasnick

I spent 10 years flying all over the country, waiting for interviews in clubhouses, fighting deadlines and investing a big chunk of my life as a beat writer and national baseball writer to earn a Hall of Fame vote. Maybe it sounds quaint or old-fashioned, but it means something to me to be able to sit down with that ballot every December and make my choices. It's a personal privilege, even though I know the process isn't perfect and we're subject to criticism for the choices we make. So I didn't see anything especially "noble'' in Dan LeBatard's decision to give his vote to Deadspin. I respect Dan and consider him a friend. But if he doesn't like the way the process works, he has a forum to express his opinion both privately and publicly -- and maybe even help change the system. The Deadspin ploy got him a lot of publicity and helped fuel the anti-BBWAA sentiment and rampant sense of cynicism that helps feed Twitter. Beyond that, I have no earthly idea what he accomplished that could remotely be characterized as positive. Maybe Dan can answer that question; I certainly can't.

Mack Ade – AM Report – 8-15-13 – Travid d’Arnaud, Raydel Medina, Jake deGrom, John Church, Matt den Dekker

avatar - 1925 WS

Don’t you think that MBL should stop playing those Bryce Harper “I play for October” commercials at this point in the 2014 season?

Well, so much for going out to Los Angeles and kicking some Dodger butt. Last night was especially a tough loss, but it's just another in a series of game that the Mets were in and couldn't sustain. Doesn't it seem like we always have the lead? Anyway, I hope we can split the next series, get hammered again by the Braves, and finally get on to the task of trying to put a deal together before the August 31st deadline. It' s time to move on (see later comments on TC about this).

Ashley Marshall –

While John Buck is on call for the arrival of his third child, Travis d'Arnaud got the call for his first taste of the big leagues. A spot behind the plate will open up for the Mets when Buck departs on paternity leave, and with the team in Los Angeles, it will be all too easy for its No. 2 prospect to move over from Las Vegas. When he does make the jump, it's expected to be a short one as Buck's leave will only be three days. But this might be the time to jump on d'Arnaud anyways. The 24-year-old backstop is back in the PCL after missing almost four months with a broken left foot, but if his results since his return are any indication, he hasn't missed a beat. The California native is 7-for-13 with a homer, three doubles, three RBIs and four walks in four games so far. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130814&content_id=56890548&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

The Reds have signed 20-year-old Cuban outfielder Raydel Medina for $400,000. Medina played for the Cuban youth national team at the 16U World Championship in Taiwan in 2009, a tournament that also included Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor, Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor and Red Sox shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin. Media performed well at the tournament, hitting .444/.516/.852 over seven games, going 12-for-27 with a homer, two triples, four doubles, four walks and three strikeouts. He ranked second on the Cuban team in slugging and OPS, behind only Guillermo Aviles. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/reds-sign-cuban-outfielder-raydel-medina/

I was on the phone with Gary Seagren yesterday and he asked me what I’d been hearing about around Met-land. I told him that I hadn’t talked to anyone since the last time he and I talked on the phone, which was about two weeks. I guess I have to a certain degree mentally shut down at this point in the season. I think the Mets have made a wonderful .500 run in July and August, but there just isn’t enough front end talent on this team to survive the injury loses of David Wright, Bobby Parnell, and now, Wilmer Flores.

I’m not recommending you all go watch Netflix, but it is time to become realistic about this team and start setting it up for a spring return. This wouldn’t be a bad time to bring back Ruben Tejada (if Flores winds up on the DL). I would hope that the Mets did everything they could to keep Flores off the DL even to the point of operating for a week with a 24-man roster. There is going to be interest in him during the off-season and the last thing you want to do is tag him right now with an injury tag.

The Mets have done a very good job of depleting their minor league upper levels of talent (though, currently, only 10 of the 25 men on the squad came out of the system). There are people; however, that I would like a peek at in September if, for no other reason, to showcase them for a possible future trade.

A few are:

SP Jake deGrom – DeGrom has had some success at the AAA-PCL level, something that is very difficult to do. Much of that success has been accredited to the addition of his new curve (or ‘slurve’, depending on who you talk to) and his continued ability to pound the zone in the 93-95 range. It’s obvious that there is no room for him in a future Mets rotation, but I don’t see him as a reliever either. No, this is one of the Mets major trade bait in the off-season and, if you want a full time decent outfielder roaming the CitiField green every night next year, you want to keep rooting for this guy in Las Vegas.

RP John Church – Church has a very good season this year for Binghamton (32-appearances, 3.44), but he has now put up 15 more in Las Vegas with an incredible ERA of 1.00 (2-ERs in 18.0-IP). It seems like I’m the only person that ever writes about this guy and I’d really like to see a look at him this season in Queens. Again, I’m not sure about where his future will be, but it definitely should be on the mound somewhere throwing quality relief. His stats prove worthy (58-K, 18-BB 54.2-IP) for the shot.

OF Matt den Dekker – I’m really not that impressed recently with the throwing arm and general defense of Eric Young Jr. I know that ‘DD’ is only hitting .286 at Las Vegas (anything under .400 there seems to suck), but I’d like to see the Mets use September as an extension of spring training and make sure every potential outfielder at the top level of our system gets a shot to, first, compete, and, secondly, be showcased. It den Dekker’s turn.

Of course, all this might be a moot point after just being told that Terry Collins intends on using the veterans in September over playing the kids in the system. Is this an attempt at another contract for TC? I almost wish he was already under contract for at least another year so this team could spend the rest of this season setting up for 2014. Do we really want to see more of John Buck or don’t you think this would be a good time to play Travis d’Arnaud every day?

We’re taking a projection look at second base and all the candidates that have any chance of become the full time second baseman for the New York Mets.

Current – Daniel Murphy – 28-yrs old - .281/.317/.410/.727, 13-E – he’s 24th in the league in hitting and is being paid $2.925mil in his first arbitration year (2016/FA). His defense is still a work in progress, but so would his immediate replacement (Wilmer Flores- turns 22 this week) be. The Mets have sort or created these workable starters that consist of Ike Davis, Murphy, Omar Quintanilla, David Wright, and John Buck in the infield… and Marlon Byrd, Juan Lagares, and Eric Young Jr. in the outfield. It’s worked to the degree that they are winning more than they are losing since they put this together, but they’re not winning enough to become relevant.

Third base stands alone as the one position that doesn’t need to be changed or tweaked. The catcher will take care of itself as soon as Travis d’Arnaud arrives. But all the other positions have what some call ‘holes’, but I call ‘issues’.

Second base, using Murphy, is not an issue to me, as long as Wilmer Flores either plays 2014 in Queens as the first baseman, or is moved for a top prospect ready for either shortstop or the outfield.

The 2014 Mets will have multiple issues and having Flores and Murphy on the same side of the infield could be quite interesting for the official scorer, but my guess is both of these guys are going to spend the off-season once again with Tim Teufel down in the compound.

Sandy Alderson has some important areas to address in the off-season, none of which include pitching, third base, and catching. I keep sitting here every day watching no offense out of this team and they have the RBI leader in the Pacific Coast League in AAA. And don’t give me that rare air shit. Everybody I that league hits the same air and Flores outhits them all. I’m run out of rational reasons why Ike Davis is still around. The risk of Juan Lagares worked… why not Flores on first for the rest of the season (with Josh Satin spelling him)?

Binghamton’s Danny Muno’s numbers have steadily decreased from each level… Brooklyn in 2011: .355… St. Lucie in 2012: .280… Binghamton this year: .254. Additionally, his OBP, SLUG, and OPS have also declined. He’s 24-yrs old and I currently place him heading to the AAAA level after 2014. Of cource, I had Juan Lagares at that level a year ago.

Jorge Rivero – 24-yrs old – A-Savannah – Rivero is playing at two levels two lower than he should, filling in for the injured Phillip Evans. He’s hit .339 at Brooklyn this year (62-AB) and .323 at Savannah (62-AB), but he projects out as only a utility infielder with no pop.

Past that, you have to go to Brooklyn to find a second baseman that should be playing St. Lucie. LJ Mazzilli (22-yrs.-old, .294) is doing fine for the Cyclones, but there is no one blocking him to play at a higher level. I’ve never understood the logic of the Mets drafting college juniors and starting them out in rookie leagues.

Anyone else here (Leon Canelon – 21/yrs. – old – GCL)) is years away from any determination.

So, what do you have here?

You actually have a pretty decent major leaguer and a top level prospect who is leading the AAA in RBIs at 21-years old. Both are a defensive liability but second base looks like one of the more secure positions on this team for years to come.

We talked yesterday about relief pitchers and we need to revisit another one that either gets little or no press in the world of Mets reporting.

How’s this for stats:

He went 7-2, 2.64 for Savannah in 2010

In 2012, he went 37-games, 2.97 for St. Lucie

In 2013, he went 32-games, 3.44 for Binghamton

And in 2013, he’s now throwing 9-G, 1.38 or Las Vegas.

He’s John Church, the 6-3 righty (26-yrs. old) out of the University of West Florida. He’s not a fireballer (260-K in 304-IP, but he doesn’t let balls leave the park either (0.38-HR9). Church has always done what the Mets have asked him to do and he’s now dominating in a league that eats up pitchers.

He should have enough time the rest of this season to determine whether or not he will be invited to the Big Boy Spring Training camp, which would be nice to see. We talk all the time about growing our talent from within and Church is a perfect example of someone worthy of that shot.

Let's revisit this... Church's combined ERA by level:  A: 3.27... A+: 3.55... AA: 3.41... AAA: 1.38.

Come on guys... give the dude a shot here...

Gary Seagren –

Good morning Mack, Very enlightening 8/1 a.m. post on the current and future state of BB. As far as my team going forward Harvey, Wheeler and Mejia are locks and we certainly have enough depth to fill the other two spots till Thor and Montero are ready.

Morning Gary… I’m starting to feel that Jonathan Niese will remain as part of the ‘Fab 5’. He would easily be the best SP5 in the National League and I love his contract. As for Montero, the word is he is heading to the bullpen after this season, which may be a very good thing for the Mets. He can’t seem to be developing an additional plus pitch to compliment his fastball. That being said, the FB alone can make him an effective 8th inning reliever if he sets everything up with the heater down the zone.

I would go the trade route for a power bat as I think the Mets will because what's available on the free agent front is not going to put us in a playoff spot and Lagares,  EY, Puello (and shouldn't he be doing his PED suspension time now) and Den Decker who's recovered nicely in Vegas NEED TO PLAY. I'd resign Byrd as a free agent for the outfield but that's all. Beltran would have been a good resign the winter after we traded him but ALL players slow down sometime and he'll be 37 next year along with the fact that who say's he'd even come back here? I like Satin as a pinch hitter and bench player and don't see Sandy going into 14' with Ike. I still don't get all the love for Duda and he'd be in Vegas not in Queens for me.

Well, I covered this at the beginning of this post. The Mets now have a basic starting lineup and everyone keeps saying “I love what Byrd has done…” and “isn’t Lagares a wonderful surprise…” and Murphy’s on fire…” and “EYJ has been a wonderful pickup…”. But, here’s the problem.

They don’t score runs.

These players are not going to get you to the playoffs. Do they make the team more competitive and enjoyable to watch? Yes. But, that’s it, Gary.

I'd go for power in a trade at SS (I know a long shot here) or 1st base and that's my first question to you: who would you go for at one of these positions to fill that need? Dream guy would be Tulo  but he'd cost us all of our top prospects even if he were available. Also for the life of me I can't understand why Flores is still in Vegas? It's got to be about service time and that stupid super 2 nonsense.

The Mets need bats, period, whether they play shortstop or the outfield.

They also can not include Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, and Noah Syndergaard in any trade. You’ve already seen the difference in how this team plays with Harvey or Wheeler on the mound. They can’t lose that.

No General Manager is going to trade his all-star shortstop for the “4th” pitching prospect out of an organization. He’s be laughed out of the GM meetings.

The Mets need to continue to build, train, and develop from within (perfect case is Juan Lagares who has been turned into a major league baseball player), but, for now, they need to take some of that huge pile of money they will have laying around in the off-season and buy someone. I want Choo. Others want Ellsbury. I could give a rat’s ass how much you pay them since it’s not my money… just limit the deal to three years max. You have to fix in out of the outfield positions until guys like Cesar Puello, Dustin Lawley, and Matt den Dekker prove whether or not they can be productive major league outfielders.

When the season began NO ONE could have guessed that Mejia and Lagares would have any impact on this year’s team no less what they've provided which has taken the sting out of the disappointment  known as Strike Davis.

Both Mejia and Lagares look like they have solidified a position on the Mets 2014 25-man squad. This is what I’ve been saying lately. You can become better at this sport if, one, you keep trying to improve and, two, you get the chance to play.

On the minor league front could you give me updates on the following players: Lawley, Gorski, Plawecki, den Decker and when will Walters get to Queens?

Lawley is leading his league home runs and has an ETA of sometime in 2015. He still needs a good amount of work on doing things other than hitting the ball out of the park and I wish the Mets would stop playing him on third base…

Gorski will come to camp next spring to compete for a 2014 pen slot…

Plawecki will open next season in Binghamton, end it in Las Vegas, and then wait for the next Travis d’Arnaud injury…

2014 will be the year den Dekker gets his chance to prove he’s a keeper and Walters’ Queens ETA is 2015.

John Church, Chris Schwinden, Brett Mitchell, Matt Harvey, Mets Urinals

John Church:

7-27-11: - I always thought John Church would be better off as a starter. He was last year for a few months in Savannah and I thought he did fine. Then 2011 brings a promotion to Lucy and back to the pen. Well, for reasons undefined, he started tonight and turned in a great outing: 5.0-IP, 1-ER, 5-H, 0-K (?)… not sure what the rotation is going to be here for the rest of the year now that Zack Wheeler is heading their way.

Chris Schwinden:

7-27-11: - Schwinny pitched a gem Wednesday afternoon, with stats of 7.0-IP, 2-R, 6-K, 1-BB. He now has 101 strikeouts for the Bisons and has become the 16th pitcher in modern-era with 100+ strikeouts for the Bisons (Dillon Gee holds the record with 165, set last year).

Brett Mitchell:

7-27-11: - http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110727&content_id=22354404&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&partnerId=rss_nym  - The only thing that could stop Brett Mitchell on Tuesday was his pitch count. The Mets prospect allowed one hit and recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings as Rookie-level Kingsport blanked the Bristol White Sox to complete a doubleheader sweep. Mitchell (4-1) did not allow a hit until Michael Johnson singled with one out in the sixth. He walked three, including Collin Kuhn with one out in the seventh, then fanned Michael Schwartz before reaching his limit of 90 pitches. "Everything was really working," said Mitchell, who throws a fastball, changeup, slider and curveball. "I was pounding the zone with my off-speed pitches. I mixed them in there all the time. I think they are all pretty solid."

Matt Harvey:

7-26-11: - http://www.amazinavenue.com/2011/7/26/2287253/mets-mid-term-farm-system-review-2011-binghamton#storyjump  - RHP Matt Harvey - STOCK UP - The first rounder from New London had quite a bit of hype surrounding him coming into his pro debut and he had no problem living up to every bit of it. He didn't allow an earned run through his first 22 IP and soon after he won the FSL's Pitcher of the Week award and it was clear to all that Harvey was the goods. Though he eventually did allow a run, Harvey looked dominant throughout his stay in Hi-A to the tune of a 10.89 K/9 and a .238 average against. However -- not surprisingly -- Double-A has a much tougher test for Harvey. Suddenly we are seeing first-hand evidence of the raw secondary stuff and sometimes shaky command that we heard about back when he was drafted. Though he's actually striking out more batters than before, his biggest problem has been consistently falling behind batters. As a result he's serving up more meatballs (.338 AVG against) as well as racking up big pitch counts early. Despite the struggles, this isn't alarming or uncommon for a Double-A debut. Really all it tells us is that perhaps Harvey is not the Gooden-esque phenom people hoped when he first busted out of the gates...but he can still be very good.

Mets Urinals:

For all the debate about the dimensions of the Mets ballpark, there is another topic that has drawn heated criticism from visitors to the home of the Mets. I'm speaking of course, about the lack of dividers in between the state of the art flushless urinals in the restrooms at Citi Field. But now, after much silence from the Mets on the issue, one Mets executive is finally speaking out on the issue. "We've all heard the jokes.", said Mets VP Dave Howard. "One blogger named Shannon or something even asked me once why the bathroom is the only place at Citi without an obstructed view. To be honest we've had discussions about the whole urinal situation before but it wasn't until the incident that we actually knew we had to do something." - http://www.readtheapple.com/2011/07/mets-vp-dave-howard-finally-adresses.html
