Draft 14 – Dylan Davis, Aaron Nola, Griffin Helms, Taylor Sparks,Tanner English

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 37. Dylan Davis, of/rhp, Oregon State: Similar to J.D. (no relation) with power both ways, he’s more advanced as a hitter and has more velocity on the mound. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 23. Texas Rangers — Aaron Nola, RHP, LSU  Maybe the best control artist available in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-1” right-hander features a plus, low-90s fastball with nasty sink to it. He offsets his fastball with a deceptive change-up that freezes hitters. As a freshman, he had 89 K/7 BB over 89.2 innings and 40 of those strikeouts were looking. He was lights-out as a sophomore for LSU, going 12-1 over 17 starts with a 1.57 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 122 K/18 BB over 126 innings. His size limits his upside a bit, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better pitcher, in the true sense of the word, out there. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 60.Griffin Helms – C, Norcross (GA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 9. Taylor Sparks / RF / UC-Irvine — Sparks has a smooth swing and should product above-average power numbers, but he’ll have to show better plate discipline and more consistency if he’s going to justify going in the top 2-3 rounds in June. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

10-18-13 – Matt Garroich – OF Tanner English at South Carolina is one of the remaining college hitters I haven't mentioned. He reminds me a little of Tyler Naquin a few years ago but Naquin was a better hitter at this point. English covers center field better and looks like he could be a 4th outfielder type of guy.http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/10/18/4851030/2014-mlb-draft-atlantic-region-college-discussion

12/27/13

Draft 14 – Touki Toussaint, Michael Cederoth, Tyler Beede, AlexBlandino, Nick Gordon

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Touki Toussaint (2014 RHP, Atlanta Blue Jays) - Touki was one of the biggest stars of the 2012 edition of Jupiter, touching 97 mph with his fastball and tantalizing with his loose whippy arm action, if to say nothing of the depth on his curveball. He was back in 2013 with high expectations, and while he didn't light up the radar gun in quite the same way (sitting 91-94), he showed strides towards converting his raw potential into usable ability. In his first inning of work he struck out four batters and showed improved command of his fastball, thanks in large part to a slightly more streamlined delivery. After beginning his journey playing baseball late, Toussaint has never consistently shown good present command of his electric stuff. That began to change with an impressive first inning in Jupiter. Eventually his wildness caught up with him in the second inning, as his filthy curveball was not only devastating to opposing hitters, but also his catcher and the umpire....leading to dropped third strikes and missed strike calls. His short developmental history and underlying athleticism suggest that with a few years of work in a player development system Toussaint can learn to harness his high level stuff and conquer the many miles of development that stand between his present ability and that elite potential. His career line at the WWBA World Championship includes two earned runs on four hits over eight innings, with 13 walks and 23 strikeouts. He has developed the spin rate on his curveball even further giving the pitch more bite and velocity while maintaining the shoulder to ankles depth it featured a year ago. He has also added a devastating splitter to his arsenal. While some may shortsightedly refer to Touki's present command as a nightmare, he is a Pitching Coordinator's dream project and as such is likely to be a high draft pick come June. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 8. Michael Cederoth / RHP / San Diego State — Cederoth’s fastball has hit 100 on scouts guns and features a slider that will flash above-average. He looks more like a high-leverage reliever at this point with a somewhat violent arm action and a lack of a quality third offering. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

11-5-13 - When Tyler Beede was in high school, at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts — which wasn’t that long ago – he had no idea he was going to be drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft, and end up deciding not to sign. Instead he chose to attend Vanderbilt University. He was the only first round pick that year not to sign. As of now, it looks like that was a good decision. Beede’s draft stock has risen and he has been projected by many to be a top five pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. That’s a considerable jump up from the 21st overall pick in the 2011 draft. However, that’s not what his focus is moving towards spring. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/05/under-the-lights-with-vanderbilts-tyler-beede/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 44. Alex Blandino, 3b, Stanford: Two-time Cape Cod League all-star struggled last spring but has the bat speed and athleticism to stay on the infield. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 15.Nicholas Gordon – SS/RHP, Olympia (FL) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

12/26/13

Draft 14 – Nick Gordon, Alex Jackson, Sam Coonrod, Joey Pankake, JustinTwine

11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 2  -   Nicholas Gordon SS RHP 6-2 170 L R Olympia Windermere FL  Florida State FTB Chandler Team  -  Good athlete, really projects both ways, outstanding defensive SS stood out at WWBA, BCS and PG Nat., great bloodlines, up to 94 @ PG World, Very good at PG All American Game  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Alex Jackson (2014 C/OF Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler, 2014 SS), Jacob Gatewood (Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team) - Jackson and Gatewood are the type of alluring high ceiling prospects that cause some scouts to dream on their upside, and others to dwell on their present flaws. Their big reward potential comes with big risk, but both are the type of draft day gambles that can change the fortunes of a franchise. If either reaches their ceiling, they have a chance to become cornerstone players for whichever organization selects them. Despite being below average straight away runners, both are good athletes. Gatewood has good present defensive actions at shortstop and an above average arm, Jackson's plus-plus present arm is a weapon behind the plate and is also well suited for right field. The raw power for both players is tremendous and if all goes right they each have a chance to hit 30-plus home runs a year while manning premium defensive positions. Both strike out a lot even at this level and make infrequent contact, causing a lot of scouts to hesitate despite their gamechanging ceiling. These are the types of prospects that put a lot of pressure on scouting directors holding picks between fifth and fifteenth overall. They will be fun players to follow not only leading up to draft day, but throughout their development as professionals. Work ethic and desire to learn and improve will go a long way to determining whether these two will fail to overcome the challenges of pro ball, or go on to achieve superstardom and leave their mark in the Major Leagues. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 14. Sam Coonrod / RHP / Southern Illinois – Coonrod has touched 98 with his fastball and has shown an average breaking ball, though most I’ve talked to believe he’s a reliever at the next level unless his command improves considerably. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 48. Joey Pankake, ss/3b/rhp, South Carolina: Powerfully built infielder controls the strike zone and has plus raw power to fit the profile at third base. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 85.Justin Twine – SS, Hemphill (TX) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

12/24/13

Draft 14 – Scott Blewett, Alex Verdugo, Drew Lugbauer, Jayce Vancena, Jacob Gatewood

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 7. Scott Blewett, RHP, Syracuse Sports Zone (Baker High, Baldwinsville, N.Y./St. John's) -  Looks like a big leaguer at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds and already can reach 96 mph with riding life on his fastball. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 34. Alex Verdugo, lhp/of, Sahuaro HS, Tucson, Ariz.: He’s a legitimate prospect both ways thanks to his feel for hitting, and a smooth delivery with a fastball up to 93 mph on the mound. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-28-13 – Jim Callis - The Sports Zone had a pair of intriguing up-the-middle players. Cr Drew Lugbauer showed off arm strength (erasing Cameron on an attempted steal of third base in the first inning) and power (pulling a home run over the right-field fence in the second). The Michigan recruit is big for a catcher at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds. http://ht.ly/qeYJz

10-27-13 – PG Showcase – RHP  Jayce Vancena (Lake HS, Millbury, Ohio) tossed four innings, allowing two hits and walking none, while striking out two. He settled in around 87-88 with modest boring action, revving up to 90 on occasion during two-strike counts or against the heart of the Scorpions lineup. He mixed in a curveball that has improved since East Coast Pro at 73-74 with 11-5 shape, though the pitch is still round and lacks bite. His best offspeed offering may have been his 78-79 slider, though he used it as his secondary breaking ball. He seldom mixed in a changeup at 81. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects - 9. Jacob Gatewood – SS, Clovis (CA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

12/12/13

Draft 14 – Keaton McKinney, Sean Reid-Foley, Trea Turner, Dillon Peters, JJ Schwartz

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 43. Keaton McKinney, rhp, Ankeny (Iowa) HS: Six-foot-5, 223-pounder has a low-90s fastball that has touched 94 and one of the better changeups in the class. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 26. Detroit Tigers — Sean Reid-Foley, RHP, Sandalwood HS (FL)  The 6’-3”, 210-pound right-hander flashes a plus fastball that touches 94 mph with late life, thanks to his easy delivery and strong build. He also features a filthy, upper-70s curveball that may be one of the best in his class, as well as a slider that looked like a future plus pitch at The Tournament of Stars in North Carolina. He has put his name on the map over the last month and has huge upside due to his size, easy delivery and stuff. Committed to Florida State. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-21-13 - Summary:  Trea Turner is going to be an impact player on both sides of the ball.  He would be an explosive leadoff man on any team.  He also has enough power that they can’t cheat in on him without him burning them.  He will be a game changer when he makes it to the next level. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/10/20/scouting-report-trea-turner-ss-north-carolina-state/

10-23-13 - College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.  We continue the list today at number 85 with University of Texas junior LHP Dillon Peters. In his sophomore season with the Longhorns, Peters went 6-3 with a 1.97 ERA; he finished the 2013 season with 86.2 IP and struck out 57 batters in the process. A second team All-Big 12 selection, Peters had an impressive .223 batting average against and during his 14 starts on the mound, the Longhorns were able to go 10-4. On top of his success on the field, Peters also shined in the classroom as he was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for fall 2012. http://ht.ly/2AZ41K

Draft 14 – Luis Ortiz, Luke Weaver, Touki Toussaint, Justin Steele,Matt Chapman

draft - luis ortiz10-15-13 – Baseball America - 14. Luis Ortiz, rhp, Sanger (Calif.) HS: Strong-bodied power pitcher with an easy delivery was MVP of 18U World Cup with fastball up to 95 mph and a plus slider http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 32. Luke Weaver, rhp, Florida State: He draws Tim Hudson comparisons for the body and live arm that pumps fastballs up to 96 mph. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 15. Los Angeles Angels — Touki Toussaint, RHP, Coral Springs Academy (FL) One of the most electric arms in the 2014 MLB draft (as well as this 2014 MLB mock draft too), the 6’-2”, 190-pound right-hander has touched 97 mph with his fastball and adds one of the best curveballs in the draft; a knee-buckling hammer that sits in the mid 70s. He adds a lot of deception to his delivery, making his stuff that much harder to pick up. The only knock on him right now is his command, which can get the best of him at times. He walked three and struck out three in one inning at the PG Classic. His stuff is outstanding.  http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 8. Matt Chapman / 3B / Cal-State Fullerton — Chapman is similar to his teammate Davis in that they both profile as corner-infielders with pitching as a fallback option, but Chapman is much more likely to stick at third base but doesn’t have near the offensive upside. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

12/10/13

Draft 15 – Kyle Molnar, Isiah Gilliam, Nolan Kingham, Brendan Rodgers,Wesley Rodriguez

11-2-13 - Perfect Game USA ‏@PerfectGameUSA  - 2015 Kyle Molnar (CA) with top OF velo at CA underclass throwing 92 mph! 2016 Holden Groff (CA) looked very good and threw 90 mph from OF!

10-28-13 – Jim Callis - Another 2015 prospect, right fielder Isiah Gilliam (Parkview High, Lilburn, Ga.), provided the key hit of the game when he tripled off an 88-mph Blewett fastball to plate the tying run in the bottom of the fourth. A 6-foot-2, 210-pound switch-hitter, he may wind up at first base in pro ball but does have arm strength to go with his enticing power. http://ht.ly/qeYJz

10-4-13 – ScoutingBaseball.com - 50 Names To Watch In The 2015 Prep Class – 15. Nolan Kingham   RHP   Sierra Vista (NV)   None http://sbb.scout.com/2/1332771.html

10-29-13 - Jeff Sullivan ‏@JSully12  -  I don't know if there is a better HS baseball player in the country than 2015 SS Brendan Rodgers.

10-27-13 – PG Showcase Jupiter - Wesley Rodriguez (George Washington HS, Bronx, N.Y.) Rodriguez, meanwhile, handled the bottomless GBG Marucci lineup, striking out five in three innings to overcome some tough defense behind him. His fastball featured heavy run from a three-quarter slot, ranging between 85-90 and topping out at 92 in the first. He also showed the ability to spin a 74-75 breaking ball that was current average with a good chance for more. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/

12/9/13

Draft 14 – Jeff Hoffman, Tucker Baca, Dalton Guthrie, J.D. Davis, Bryce Montes De Oca

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 2. Jeff Hoffman / RHP / East Carolina – He doesn’t have Rodon’s track record, but Hoffman was as good — if not better — than any collegiate pitcher this summer, occasionally hitting 97 on the gun with a plus-plus curve and a change that also flashed plus. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

11-2-13 – Jim Callis – Tucker Baca dominated the Dallas Patriots, working four shutout innings in a 9-1 win. He’s a 6-foot-3, 195-pound lefty who throws from a low arm slot, so of course he draws Chris Sale comparisons. Baca threw 91-93 mph early in the game, harder than usual and without sacrificing any of the tremendous life he generates with his fastball. He averaged 88-90 mph over the course of his outing. The Arizona State recruit also destroyed lefthanders with his slider, which averaged 72-74 mph and peaked at 78. He used just three changeups, though some evaluators believe that’s consistently his best pitch. All told, he threw 45 of his 68 pitches for strikes while allowing just one hit and two walks and fanning seven. http://ht.ly/qg5La

10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - The Florida Burn, made up exclusively of players from the Sunshine State, had a strong balance of run scoring and run prevention to advance to the championship game.  Shortstop Dalton Guthrie, who also attends Venice and is committed to Florida, compiled a .333/.381/.333 line and Lee, a High Point commit, had a strong showing, with a .375/.429/.500 line. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 36. J.D. Davis, 1b/3b/rhp, Cal State Fullerton: Unsigned Rays fifth-rounder out of high school in 2011 offers power on the mound and at the plate. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 63. Bryce Montes De Oca – RHP, Lawrence (KS) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

12/7/13

Draft 16 – Christopher Lincoln, Matt Krook, Zach Rice, Francis Christy,Anthony Molina

draft - christopher lincoln11-7-13 - 2013 California Underclass Showcase – Christopher Lincoln - RHP - 2016 - Moreno Valley, CA -  Very loose projectable arm action, easy low 80s velocity with more to come. High ceiling. http://www.perfectgame.org/events/Showcases/TopProspectList.aspx?event=1692

7-18-13 – Interview… Jeff (CA) - Was there ever any confirmation as to what the medical issue was with Matt Krook that led the Marlins to not sign him? …  Keith Law - No, not publicly (and I won't say if it's not public already). It sounds like a disagreement - the Marlins were concerned enough to offer him 40% of slot rather than full slot, but Krook felt like they were overplaying the injury to offer him less money and figured he was better off going to school. I'm not a doctor and haven't seen the medicals either, so I don't know what to think, other than that I hope the kid ends up staying healthy. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/48502

9-30-13 - Clint Longenecker ‏@Clint_BA  - UNC FR LHP Zach Rice, 6'2, 189, sat upper 80s and hit 91 with some deception to his delivery. Had feel for offspeed. Tough on lefty hitters

9-9-13 – Top 10 Far West League Prospects - 1. Francis Christy, c, California (Fr., Oregon) - Christy stands out mostly for his size, quick wrists and arm strength. A strong commitment to the Ducks led him to campus after slipping to Oakland in the 37th round in June. As a 17-year-old, Christy hit .309/.434/.509 this summer and actually led the league in triples (five) despite his below-average speed. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound backstop has a compact swing from the left side and raw power to all fields. He employs a slightly open stance and has plenty of bat speed to let the ball travel deep in the zone. While Christy has turned in sub-2.0 pop times and is by all accounts a hard worker, he will need to improve his footwork and receiving in order to stay behind the plate. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/far-west-league-top-10-prospects/

10-13-13 - Todd Gold ‏@TGold_PG  - 2016 RHP Anthony Molina (Pembroke Pines, FL) has Kd 7 & allowed 1 hit through 3 scoreless IP. Settled @ 87-90, still touching 92

12/6/13

Draft 15 – Kyle Molnar, Donnie Everett, Jake Woodford, Jonathan Olsen, Dylan Cyphert

11-7-13 - 2015 Top Prospects - 2013 California Underclass Showcase - Kyle Molnar - RHP - 2015 - Aliso Viejo, CA -  Fastball sat 89-91, cruised through three innings facing the minimum, got swings and misses not only by overpowering hitters with the fastball, but also by snapping off several nasty curveballs and has introduced a hard slider into his repertoire. Impressive OF tools/ability as well and could have made the top prospect list as an OF only. http://www.perfectgame.org/events/Showcases/TopProspectList.aspx?event=1692

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Donnie Everett (2015 RHP, Royals Scout Team) - Every year the Royals Scout Team is filled with strong candidates for this category, and while Everett wasn't the only talented player who fits well here, he is the one that made the strongest impression. The bleary eyed scouting contingent that arrived at the complex in time for the start of the first time slot on day four, just a few hours after leaving the night before, were jolted awake when the sturdy built 6-foot-2 220-pound underclassmen fired a 95 mph fastball during his warmup. He then sat 90-94 in his first inning of work and backed it with a hard spinning curveball in the low-80s that flashed hard biting action. He's a pitcher who will be watched very closely in his return trip to Jupiter next year. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-3-13 - Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG  - #UCLA commit RT @PerfectGameUSA: 2015 RHP Jonathan Olsen (CA) very impressive this morning! High 80's FB and very good CB! Projects well!

11-3-13 - Border Battle ‏@SABorderBattle  - 2015 Penn State Commit Dylan Cyphert LHP has been up to 89 MPH Cranberry HS PA Cyphert will be a big prospect on summer/fall circuit in 2014

12/5/13

Draft 14 – Grant Holmes, Tyler Beede, Trea Turner, Michael Cederoth,,Ti’Quan Forbes

draft - grant holmes11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Grant Holmes (2014 RHP, EvoShield Canes) - It doesn't come as a big surprise that Holmes registered the tournament's highest velocity, touching 97 mph with his fastball in the opening game for the champion EvoShield Canes. His velocity has frequently sat in the mid-90s in showcase settings, and low- to mid-90s in a starting role. Just as importantly, in Jupiter he showed the ability to command that heat well. While his command in the semifinal start against the loaded Mets Scout Team doesn't look impressive in the box score with three walks and 59-percent strikes, he was making a noticeable effort to hit the corners of the strike zone. After pounding the zone in the opener, Holmes stayed out of the middle of the plate effectively in the semifinals and his command was good for the majority of that critical game while sitting 91-95 on fairly short rest. That command is key for his draft stock, as his thick stocky build doesn't neatly fit the mold of a classic starting pitching prospect. But in Jupiter he proved that he can command his fastball well and incorporate his hammer curveball effectively over multiple innings while knowing how and when to work in the changeup. That combination puts him in position to become a top 50 pick. His effort in the semifinals gave his team a chance to win against one of the best lineups in the tournament, and he was rewarded with a championship ring. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 7. Tyler Beede / RHP / Vanderbilt – Outside of Rodon, Beede might be the most famous collegiate pitcher in the class after not signing as a first-rounder in 2011; but middling command and some potential medical issues make him more of a mid-first round pick at this point. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 4. Trea Turner, ss, North Carolina State: Ankle issue hampered him in 2013, but he offers bat speed, athleticism and top-of-the-scale speed when healthy. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

11-6-13 –  PG -- The scouting world didn’t get their dose of flame-throwing San Diego State righty, Michael Cederoth this summer, and because of that, his fall outings are garnering more attention than they would typically get. Since Cederoth did not pitch on Cape Cod, for Team USA, or anywhere else for that matter, the most recent reports come from his sophomore season. The 6-foot-6 right-hander’s velocity exploits are well documented, as he is known to frequently pitch in the upper 90s with his fastball and touch as high as 100 mph.  Cederoth took the mound on Friday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium, where he was scheduled to throw four innings in San Diego State’s intrasquad game. But, if you looked at the large scouting contingent in attendance, you certainly wouldn’t know this was only a very controlled scrimmage among teammates.  The San Diego State ace did not bring out of his best velocity on Friday, and for most in attendance, the assessment was that this was probably somewhat intentional. We’ll keep an eye on it, but more than anything else Cederoth appeared to be striving for command and movement in favor of pure velocity. He worked consistently at 91-93 mph with his fastball, but throughout his four innings was able to reach for an easy 95 mph fastball whenever he wanted it. If he needed to sit around 95 mph, which we know he’s capable of, it appeared he could have done it quite easily.  More interesting, however, was the frequency of Cederoth’s breaking ball, and his variance of it. To the naked eye, Cederoth threw as many, or more, off-speed pitches as he did fastballs, and was mostly very effective with that approach. He mixed a 12-6 curveball at 76-78 mph that he even dropped down to 73 mph with late in his outing. But, his real put away pitch is his 81-85 mph slider. Although the bite on this pitch was a little inconsistent, when he got on top and not around it, it had the look of a plus or 60 offering on the 20-80 scale. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9172

Draft 14 – Tyler Kolek, Michael Cederoth, Sean Reid-Foley, Luke Weaver,Jacob Gatewood

draft - tyler kolek 4

11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings –  4  -   Tyler Kolek RHP 1B 6-5 230 R R Shepherd Shepherd TX   Houston Heat  -  Big RHP was up to 97 mph at PG National. Arm works well and off speed shows good potential. Up to 99 mph at PG All American Game  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-5-13 – TTF - Michael Cederoth, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound right-hander, has the size baseball personnel covet. It didn’t take him long to establish himself in the Aztecs rotation, and the 67 1/3 innings he threw his freshman year were the second most on the team. He managed a 20.1 percent strikeout rate along with a 15.7 percent walk rate. In his sophomore year, Cederoth threw 95 1/3 innings in 15 starts. The strikeout and walk rates improved to 27.3 percent 12.0 percent, respectively. Cederoth uses a herky-jerky delivery with a high leg kick and some back turn. Throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot, he gets very good downward plane on his pitches. He gets very good extension. Cederoth uses a big arm swing, which results in the ball dipping well below his waist before he delivers. With most pitchers, this would be a difficult delivery to repeat, but Cederoth is a very good athlete, and stays pretty consistent with his motion. Still, his delivery probably will be tinkered with at the next level.  http://throughthefencebaseball.com/profiling-2014-mlb-draft-michael-cederoth/39602#MEeDqWBQWYDUurWR.99

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Sean Reid-Foley (2014 RHP, Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler) - While he is still learning to harness the command of his high caliber raw stuff, he has shown good command in stretches while his stuff has been reliable. He struck out four of the six batter he faced in Jupiter, sitting 92-94 consistently, while showing a sharp biting mid-80s slider. He has shown a quality four pitch mix in the past and has touched 95 with the fastball. He has had crisp outings where he commanded the strike zone well and outings where he would miss high and to the arm side. While he lacks polish, he is unhittable when he's on, and he has been on while pitching on some big stages. In a lot of draft classes he would be one of, if not the elite high school arm in the class. The depth of high school arms in 2014 could allow a team to get a very good value on him come June, unless he takes a step forward and begins to separate himself from an impressive peer group in the spring. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 10. Luke Weaver / RHP / Florida State – Weaver hit 97 with his fastball this summer and has an above-average change-up, although will have to improve his slurvy breaking-ball to profile as a starter at the next level. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 5. Jacob Gatewood, ss/3b, Clovis (Calif.) HS: Long, lean and toolsy athlete with a plus arm and arguably the best power potential in the class. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Kodi Medeiros, Gabe Gonzalez, Aaron Nola, Nick Gordon, ColeTucker

draft - kodi medeiros11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 5  -   Kodi Medeiros LHP OF, 1B 6-0 185 L L Waiakea Hilo HI  Pepperdine Big League  -  Can flat out pitch! Unhittable and up to 95 at PG AA. Excellent breaking ball. Impressed at WWBA World Championship http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Gabe Gonzalez (2014 RHP, Ohio Warhawks) - While most of the scouting world caught a glimpse of the power armed Las Vegas product in his first outing at the Area Code Games, most of that massive scouting contingent had left Long Beach before he took the mound for his second outing, in which he was far more comfortable. After topping out at 89 mph and finding himself behind in the count too frequently to show any of his offspeed pitches, most scouts didn't get to see the real Gonzalez. With his nerves calmed, his second outing of the Area Code Games was considerably better, and while he still battled some wildness, he sat 88-90 touching 91 and got to use his solid mid-70s curveball and low-80s changeup. In Jupiter he kicked it up another notch, hitting 94 mph in a relief outing. His fastball velocity also plays up due to the combination of a wingspan longer than that of a typical 6-foot-3 pitcher, with his very long arm action and long extension out front. He's still a bit of a mystery as a prospect, but scouts will be watching him closely next spring as they search for clues as to his future. One thing is certain, he has a live arm. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 5. Aaron Nola / RHP / LSU – Nola was one of the best pitchers in the SEC last year, pounding the strike zone with a low 90′s fastball and above-average secondary offerings. His arm slot is a major concern from the scouts I’ve talked to, however. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 11. Nick Gordon, ss/rhp, Olympia HS, Orlando, Fla.: The son of former big leaguer Tom and brother of Dodgers infielder Dee has a chance to stick at short with a plus arm, good actions and a solid lefthanded swing. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Kodi Medeiros, Nick Burdi, Ti’Quan Forbes,Bryson Brigman

draft - alex jackson11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 3  -   Alex Jackson C OF, 3B 6-2 210 R R Rancho Bernardo Escondido CA  Oregon San Diego Show  -  Huge power, very good defensive catcher, Also play OF well. Has all the tools, outstanding at PG Nat. Games and Area Codes. Outstanding at PG National. PG All American  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Kodi Medeiros (2014 LHP, Ohio Warhawks) - Medeiros' start against Chandler Baseball was the main event of amateur baseball's main event. Hundreds of golf carts created a wall four plus rows deep behind the plate to get a glimpse at the 2014 class' most intrguiging prospect. The native of Hilo, a town of aprox. 45,000 on Hawaii's big island, was relatively unknown on the national scene prior to taking the mound at the PG National Showcase in June. His electric stuff took the scouting community by surprise and he continued to impress throughout the summer in one and two inning stints at the Area Code Games and PG All-American Classic. But with his small frame, unorthodox delivery and short track record there has been an ongoing debate amongst scouts as to whether he can maintain his high level stuff through the physical rigors of a role in the starting rotation. Simply put; there has never been a prospect quite like Medeiros. That fact should be viewed as a huge positive, though the lack of a viable comp does make him somewhat more difficult to evaluate. His fastball sits comfortably in the 90-92 range and has peaked as high as 95, but more than the velocity, his fastball features plus movement and life, seemingly accelerating after leaving his hand and darts hard to the arm side with sink. He has shown some feel for locating his fastball on the corners, which is impressive considering it's depth of run. His slider has plus bite and depth, but is a pitch that he's still developing feel for. This should come as no surprise given that very few catchers at this level are able to handle the pitch because of it's devastating late bite and huge depth. Subsequently, he is unable to use it with two strikes or a runner on third in game situations. With high-level catching, Medeiros will have an opportunity to develop better feel for using the pitch in-game situations and begin to realize the pitch's 80-grade potential. His changeup was inconsistent in his previous outings, flashing plus at the PG National before betraying him at the Area Code Games and in the PG All-American Classic. With that in mind he made a point to show it off in Jupiter and with very go od results, locating the first three for strikes. In Jupiter his changeup caused several ugly swings, and several of them were legitimate plus offerings, though he still has work to do to improve his consistency with it. His three inning outing was a Rorshach for scouts, as those who view him as a starter will point to his six pitch first inning and quality of changeup, while those who see a future in the bullpen will fixate on his velocity dipping to 88-90 in the third inning. Regardless of his future role, Medeiros is a special talent who has a chance to be among the best pitchers in baseball in that role, should he manage to stay healthy going forward and continue to develop. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 12. Nick Burdi / RHP / Louisville — He’s strictly a reliever, but potentially a very good one with a fastball that has touched triple digits and a slider that will give right-handed hitters fits. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 39. Ti’Quan Forbes, ss, Columbia (Miss.) HS: Young and spindly, the three-sport Forbes is a premium athlete and plus runner who will need time to develop with the bat. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Jeff Hoffman, Grant Holmes, Alex Verdugo, Jackson Reetz, Josh Ockimey

draft - jeff hoffman11-3-13 – Baseball America - East Carolina’s scout day was held Friday night, which gave in-state scouts a look at righthander Jeff Hoffman, who ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Cape Cod League this summer. Hoffman dominated with Cape with sharpened stuff that produced 12 strikeouts per nine and a 6.6 strikeout-walk ratio. Hoffman sat 93-96 mph with his fastball through two innings and did not throw a fastball below 94 in his second inning. He has a loose, easy arm action and the ball jumps out of his hand with downhill plane and minimal effort from a three-quarters slot. Hoffman largely pitched off his fastball. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/east-carolina-scout-day-jeff-hoffman/

10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - Righthander Grant Holmes started the first game of the tournament on Thursday, which allowed him to come back for Sunday morning’s semi-final matchup against the Orlando Scorpions, who have won many of the national tournaments this year. The strong-bodied Holmes, a Perfect Game All-American, touched 95 mph and sat 89-94, striking out five and allowing one run over four innings. The Canes rallied to win 4-3 in dramatic fashion, scoring three runs in the seventh inning to advance to the championship game, as Lane delivered an opposite-field two-run single. . http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 10. Alex Verdugo, OF/LHP, Texas Scout Team Yankees (Sahuaro High, Tucson, Ariz.) -  Scouts are split on his future because he has a sweet left-handed swing and a strong arm. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 49. Jackson Reetz, c/of/rhp, Hickman (Neb.) HS: An offensive star of the 18U USA Baseball squad that won a gold medal this summer, Reetz has shown the ability to hit in games, as well as the tools and athleticism to stick behind the plate. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Ryan Avidano, Jacob Gatewood, Alex Jackson, Jeremiah Mohammed, Benito Santiago

draft - ryan avidano10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - Championship game starter LHP Ryan Avidano, 18, was named the event’s most valuable pitcher after throwing four scoreless innings and striking out seven versus three hits against the Burn, who entered the championship game undefeated and having scored nearly six runs a game. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Avidano has an extra-large frame, lanky build and long limbs. Avidano (Starr’s Mill High, Fatetteville, Ga.) has a deceptive delivery and mid-to-high-80s fastball. He threw his fastball for strikes and relied on his breaking ball-changeup combination, throwing offspeed pitches on nearly half of his pitches. . http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 2. Jacob Gatewood, SS, Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team (Clovis, Calif., HS/Southern California) -  6-foot-5, 190-pound athlete can put on a show in batting practice, needs more consistent game production. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 6. Alex Jackson, c/of, Rancho Bernardo HS, San Diego: Pairs plus power and arm strength with athleticism and a chance to stay behind the plate. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-27-13 – PG Showcase – RHP Jeremiah Muhammad (Coral Springs Christian Academy, Somerset, N.J.) intrigued with his 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame and quick arm in two innings of relief with the Atlanta Blue Jays. Muhammad, who hails from the Garden State but attends school in the Sunshine State, worked in the 87-90 range and was around the zone. He coupled his heater with an 11-5 shaped, 75-76 mph curveball that flashed two-plane bite. At this point, the righthander is raw, more of a thrower who could stand to improve his angle and rhythm, but Muhammad’s physicality and speed of his arm are certainly attention-grabbers. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/

Draft 14 – Sean Reid-Foley, Kodi Medeiros, Montrell Marshall, KelJohnson, Michael Chavis

draft - sean reid foley10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 6. Sean Reid-Foley, RHP, Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler (Sandalwood High, Jacksonville, Fla./Florida State) -  Inconsistent but has shown a quality fastball, breaking ball and command at different times during the summer. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 30. Kodi Medeiros, lhp, Waiakea HS, Hilo, Hawaii: With a lively fastball up to 95 mph and a power slider, Medeiros pairs electric stuff with an unconventional low slot. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-25-13  - PG Showcase – Among Team Elite’s hitters, third baseman Montrell Marshall (Snellville, Ga.) showed well on Day One, hitting several balls with authority on a line, including a line drive triple just short of the center-field warning track. Marshall has a projectable 6-foot-5, 200-pound build and looks the part at third, where he moves well and has plenty of arm strength. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/toussaint-wows-evaluators-at-jupiter/

10-28-13 – Jim Callis - East Cobb's top 2014 Draft prospect, left fielder Kel Johnson (home-schooled in Palmetto, Ga.), didn't do much on Saturday. He went 0-for-3, grounding out and striking out on a 77-mph breaking ball against Blewett. He has tremendous raw power, but the Georgia Tech recruit will have to show he'll hit enough to get to it consistently. http://ht.ly/qeYJz

Draft 14 – Sean Newcomb, Michael Rivera, Braxton Davidson, Max Pentacost, Jeremy Vasquez

draft - sean newcomb10-31-13 – TTF – Sean Newcomb shows a plus fastball that tops out at 96. He also features a cutter/slider, and a curveball. He’s also known to mix in a changeup. Not surprisingly, the fastball is easily his best pitch. The cutter/slider is solid. Improved command of his secondary pitches is a big key for Newcomb’s continued development. Mechanically, Newcomb features a relatively low effort delivery. He shows good arm speed, but occasionally struggles with maintaining his release point. He throws from a natural 3/4 arm slot, with clean, rather than whippy arm action. Pitchers are always injury risks to some extent, but Newcomb’s delivery doesn’t contain any red flags. At 6’5, he should get good downward plane, though he sometimes gets too low on his back leg, causing him to leave pitches up in the zone. Using an abbreviated leg lift, his mechanics stay consistent from the stretch. Sean Newcomb has the size and fastball velocity that teams covet.  In terms of delivery and frame, he is drawing comparisons to Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester. Everything he has shown so far indicates he will continue to improve. With a solid junior year, he could go within the top twenty picks of the 2014 draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-sean-newcomb/39495#JdMvtKL1EPdg1xCE.99

10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - The Florida Burn, made up exclusively of players from the Sunshine State, had a strong balance of run scoring and run prevention to advance to the championship game. Catcher Michael Rivera, an offensive star for Team USA committed to Florida, from Venice (Fla.) High hit four doubles and five walks against one walk, finishing with a .286/.423/.476 line.  http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 9. Braxton Davidson, OF, Dirtbags (Roberson High, Asheville, N.C.) -  Packs a lot of left-handed power in his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame; pitchers rarely challenged him in Jupiter. http://ht.ly/qi5No

Draft 14 - A Quick Look At - RHP - Luis Ortiz - Sanger (CA) HS

draft - luis ortizLuis Ortiz

7-14-13  -  Luis Ortiz’s previous experience on the showcase circuit was at USA Baseball’s National Team Identification Series in Cary, N.C., where parents of other players on his summer team, Central Cal Baseball Academy, raised the necessary funds for the 6-foot-3 pitcher to travel cross country and attend the event. The 17-year-old Ortiz turned heads with his natural arm strength, showing a 91-93 mph fastball and 80-82 mph slider. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/luis-ortiz-lights-up-radar-guns-at-pg-national/

7-2-13 - 11. Luis Ortiz- RHP, Sanger (CA) HS -  6’3, 220 RHP who sat 93-94, touched 95 at the Tournament of Stars http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-5-13 - Luis Ortiz, RHP, Sanger HS (CA) - The 6’-3”, 220-pound right-hander will be almost 19 on draft day, making him one of the older players in his class. Because of this, his upside isn’t as high as others on this list. That said, his stuff is really good, and his fastball sits in the 92-95 mph range. He adds a developing plus slider that sits in the mid-80s, and his offspeed stuff is still in the developmental stages. He has great mound presence and feel for his pitches, and he also is a good athlete. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/prep-arms-chicago-cubs/34856#Vp7zJ4JvRevfV1fR.99

7-24-13  -  3. Luis Ortiz, rhp, Sanger (Calif.) High/San Diego Show - After losing 35 pounds in the last year, Ortiz has a strong, durable 6-foot-3, 210-pound build with strength in his lower half. Pitching exclusively from the stretch, the Fresno State signee looks effortless producing 92-95 mph velocity and sustains his velocity well. He reportedly hit 97 in early June. Ortiz gets good sink and armside run from his tick above three-quarters arm slot. He consistently throws strikes and has feel for multiple offspeed pitches. His low-80s slider with tight rotation has the makings of a plus pitch.  A mid-80s changeup with tumble flashes average or better. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 11. Luis Ortiz, RHP, Sanger HS (CA) - 6'3/220, Draft Day Age: 18.71, No college commitment, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Ortiz is maxed-out physically and is one of the older players in the class but still has lots to like about him. He dropped a lot of weight over the past year and consistently sits 92-95 mph with an 82-85 mph slider that's plus at times from a smooth delivery. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-5-14 - David Rawnsley ‏@DavidRawnsleyPG  - Luis Ortiz, we hardly got to know you.  91-94, about 15 pitches in 2 innings, 2 balls....maybe?

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 22. 8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 4. Luis Ortiz, rhp, Sanger (Calif.) High/San Diego Show - The 6-foot, 223-pound Ortiz has been one of the most consistent arms this summer. Working from the stretch with an easy delivery and three-quarter arm slot, Ortiz sat 91-94 mph, filling up the strike zone in two quick innings. The Fresno State commit has a mid-80s slider that flashes plus, low-80s changeup and has started integrating a curveball into his repertoire. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

Draft 14 – Kodi Medeiros, Justus Sheffield, Isan Diaz, Jesse Lepore,Braxton Davidson

draft - kodi medeiros10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 5. Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Ohio Warhawks (Waiakea High, Hilo, Hawaii/Pepperdine) -  Compact lefty has outstanding movement on his pitches, has hit 95 mph with his fastball. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 38. Justus Sheffield, lhp, Tullahoma (Tenn.) HS: He offers a fastball up to 95 mph, above-average breaking ball/changeup combo and the ability to throw strikes. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-28-13 – Jim Callis – SS Isan Diaz (Springfield, Mass., Central High) showed smooth actions at shortstop, making several plays look easier than they were. The 6-foot, 185-pounder has shown some offensive promise but went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and struggled against breaking balls. He has yet to commit to a college. http://ht.ly/qeYJz

10-27-13 – PG Showcase – RHP Jesse Lepore featured an 88-91 mph fastball, touching 92 once in his three-inning stint. He limited the Bulls to one hit. From his similarly high slot, Lepore spun a sharp 12-6 curveball between 72-75, and sparingly mixed in a mid-70s changeup with effective arm speed and sink. Early on, the Miami commit’s biggest issue was getting ahead and throwing consistent strikes, though he eventually settled in the zone with greater regularity. This may have been a product of Lepore’s athletic yet deceptive delivery, which has some effort. He begins slowly, taking his time getting to his balance point, but as he readies to move toward the plate he quickly tilts his shoulders back, creating a better plane. It’s relatively difficult to repeat, and seemed to cause his body to race ahead of his arm at times. In all, he finished with two walks and three strikeouts http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/
