Portland won, 5-4.
Ryan Coultas (4-2, 2.55, in 9 starts) started Wednesday night’s game against Portland. Coultas is your run-of-the mill converted infielder, converted outfielder, converted reliever, and converted closer. He went 6.0, 2 ER, 9H, 4K. 0BB, 2.59.
The Mets scored first, in the third inning, when OF Jose Coronado signled, SS Ruben Tejada doubled him to third, and scored on CF Emmanuel Garcia’s sacrifice.
Long ball got them two more runs in the fifth, with Tejada’s 2nd double, a double by Garcia, and a triple by C Josh Thole.
Just promoted RP Edgar Ramirez, who sported a year long 0.00 ERA (21.2 IP) when he was at Lucy, came in during the 7th inning, and added 1.1 more run-less innings. Not much press for this guy, who I got to know pretty well last year. One of the most educated and intelligent baseball players I have ever met, he has one of those personalities that will either get him elected some day, or the host of a show on ESPN.
Garcia and Thole just kept on hitting and created a fourth run in the top of the ninth.
Everything was hunky-dorry until the botton of the ninth, when Julio De La Cruz came in to pitch and De La Bombed… Roy Merritt replaced him, but too late…Merritt dished up the walkaway single.
