Robbie Erlin –
Scotts Valley HS (Calif) –
5/28 from BA: Multiple scouts have said the same thing about Erlin: "If he were two inches taller, you'd be talking about him as a first rounder." One scout regretted that it had to come down to that. "That sucks that what we do for a living is look at kids and cookie cut them like that." Erlin is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound lefthander from the Santa Cruz area. Despite the small frame, he still has some life to his fastball, pitching at 89-92 mph. He commands the pitch to both sides of the plate and also has a well-above-average curveball—a hammer he can throw for strikes in any count. He can get underneath his changeup a little bit, but it too has a chance to be above-average. Erlin is regarded as a great kid and is committed to Cal Poly.
Fr. http://www.santacruzsentinal.com/ - When Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League baseball coaches gather each year to vote on the best of the best, there's usually some squabbling over Player of the Year honors. Enter Scotts Valley High senior Robbie Erlin, the only unanimous selection at the all-SCCAL selection meeting last week. Erlin was so dominant, local coaches also named him Pitcher of the Year in addition to Player of the Year. They agreed that naming Erlin as only Player of the Year would be a disservice to whomever took home Pitcher of the Year honors. Only statistics from SCCAL play -- not the whole season -- were factored into the selections. In 44 at-bats, Erlin led the Falcons with 19 hits, 16 runs, 14 RBIs, two triples, and a .432 batting average. He also hit a double, drew six walks had a .500 on-base percentage and committed no errors on defense. On the mound, the left-handed ace went 5-0 with a 0.42 ERA. In 33 innings, he allowed two earned runs, 18 hits and walked only four while striking out 61.

He has a strong compact build, uses an OT arm slot, easy arm that can reach the upper eighties, sneaky fastball, gets in on righties, can locate fastball to both sides of plate, excellent curveball, good CH, definite division 1 prospect. He is also a very good student
