2011 DRAFT: - Steve Rodriquez, Logan Verrett, Phillip Pfeifer, David Thompson... and Patrick Andrews

Steve Rodriquez:

link  - C, Steve Rodriguez, UCLA, Jr to be, 6'1 190, L/R, smooth receiver, doesn't appear that big, but he'll fool you. He does everything rather easy and if he can handle the staff at UCLA like he did during the college season and this club with Team USA, you have to believe he's going to be mentioned with his skill package as a future ML backstop for sure. Some comparisons to Jorge Posada, except Jorge is a switch hitting witch! Steve handles the glove very well, is alert, light on his feet, 1.87 pop time and 55 arm, might be better as his throws have carry when on top of his throws, and he's accurate. Defensively I'd say he's ahead of Yasmani Grandal at the same point last year.

Logan Verrett:

7-3 from: - link  - •Chatham’s Logan Verrett (Baylor) was on a pitch count last night, but if he hadn’t been, we might have had the second no-hitter in three days. As it was, Verrett pitched seven innings of no-hit ball before giving way to the bullpen. He struck out four and got the win as Chatham topped Hyannis 5-1.

Phillip Pfeifer:

7-11 from: - link  – The USA Baseball 18U National Team beat the Greater Alliance N.Y. All-Stars 11-1 in game two of a twinbill Saturday night at University Field. Starter Phillip Pfeifer worked two shutout frames recording three strikeouts.

7-12-10 from: - link  - Heading into the 2011 baseball season, you won't find many high school pitchers with more experience than Farragut's Philip Pfeifer III. The MaxPreps National Junior Baseball Player of the Year, Pfeifer is a veteran of international competition. He recently landed a spot on the Team USA 18U team, marking the third straight year that Pfeifer has made a national team. Last year for the United States' gold-medal winning team at the Pan Am games, Pfeifer was 2-0 with 18 strikeouts - second on the team only to Jameson Taillon who was the No. 1 high school pitcher selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. At the high school level, Pfeifer has been almost untouchable in his three years on the Admiral varsity team. In going 41-1 in three seasons, Pfeifer has struck out 415 batters. Farragut has won state titles in all three of those seasons with Pfeifer going 16-0 this year. Already a member of the MaxPreps All-American Team, Pfeifer was also recognized by Louisville Slugger as the National Pitcher of the Year. Pfeifer joins Westminster Christian's David Thompson and Lakewood's J.P. Crawford as Player of the Year winners.

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Philip Pfeifer, FarragutPhillip Pfeifer, Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.), Pitcher - Already a three-time all-state player, Pfeiffer led Farragut to its third straight Tennessee AAA state title by finishing 16-0 with a 1.26 ERA. He threw a one-hitter in the state finals with 14 strikeouts and had 165 strikeouts and only 26 walks in 96 innings pitched. Heading into his senior year, Pfeiffer has a record of 41-1 with 415 strikeouts.

David Thompson:

7-12-10 from: - link  - Thompson is the MaxPreps National Sophomore Baseball Player of the Year while Crawford is the Freshman Player of the Year. Thompson is already in the midst of a spectacular career in South Florida where he has drawn comparisons to Alex Rodriguez, a Westminster Christian alum. With 19 home runs this year, Thompson has already tied the state record for homers in a season. He's led the Warriors to two straight Florida 2A state championships.

Patrick Andrews:

7-13-10 from: - link  - The Diamond Devils 17U Blue won the largest age group tournament in baseball history Monday afternoon at the East Cobb Complex in Marietta, Georgia, defeating FTB Mizuno 2-1 in the championship game of the World Wood Bat Association 17U National Championship. RHP Patrick Andrews (2011, Hilton Head Christian HS, SC) was outstanding on the mound for the Diamond Devils, throwing a complete game 7 hitter to get the win. The 6-3, 180 lb. Andrews works in the 88-91 mph range with his fastball and mixed in a solid low 80’s slider and occasional change up. He had significant help from his defense throughout the contest.
