2011 DRAFT: - Blake Swihart, Hudson Boyd, Joe Loftus, John Hochstatter... and Dante Bichette Jr.

Blake Swihart:

link  - C, Cleveland HS (N.M.) -- Swihart was perhaps the best bat at the Area Code Games earlier this month, and possesses one of the best arms in this year's catching crop. Swihart produces consistent hard contact from both sides of the plate, showing the potential to grow into some power (he thrives gap-to-gap right now). His receiving will be tested tonight by an impressive collection of arms on the West roster, giving him the chance to solidify his hold among scouts as the top HS catcher in the 2011 class. His pop times are routinely sub-2.0 and often sub-1.9, and he gets excellent carry. While not a speedster, Swihart is a good enough athlete to move around the field as needed. He is committed to Texas.

Hudson Boyd:

8-16-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#storyjump  - Hudson Boyd, RHP, Bishop Verot HS (Fla.) - Committed to Florida, Boyd is physically maxed at six-foot-two and 235 pounds. But, he’s just as powerful as his frame suggests. His fastball sat consistently at a very heavy 92-93 mph with very good command of the pitch and a sharp 11-5 slider that he likes to back door lefties with that sat at 79-81. Boyd also showed a good feel for an 80-83 mph change-up, as well. With two above-average pitches and a good feel for a change as well as overall command, Boyd is without a doubt one of the most polished pitchers in the 2011 high school ranks.

8-16-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=130  - Hudson Boyd, RHP, Bishop Verot HS (FL)- Boyd worked the bottom half of the first inning. He has the makings of three potential plus pitches. His fastball sat 92-93, and he has good command on his power curve. He caught John David Crowe Jr. looking at his curve to end the inning.

Joe Loftus:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4  - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. – Outfield - Joe Loftus, Vanderbilt, 6'2 200, R/R, again the Commodore program is loaded for 2011 CWS chase. This kid has the tools, solid ave raw power, runs well, better on the way, arm is adequate for corner OF play.

John Hochstatter:

8-12-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html  - LHP - San Ramon Valley HS, Danville, Calif. A big, strong lefty, Hochstatter has outstanding feel and command. His fastball has great life and sits comfortably in the 88-90 mph range. He adds and subtracts from his velocity to toy with young hitters. He has advanced secondary stuff as well. Hochstatter was a member of Team USA's 18U pitching staff this summer.

Dante Bichette Jr.

8-16-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#storyjump  - Dante Bichette Jr., 3B, Orangewood Christian HS (Fla.)- Committed to Georgia, the right-hander has some of the best raw power in the high school ranks, and it was on fine display in batting practice Saturday morning. Bichette generates plus bat speed and tremendous loft through an open stance and a huge timing step, which will need to be quieted down as he faces more advanced pitching. His plus raw power potential is strictly to the pull-side right now, as all but one or two of his hits went down to left field. During game action, Bichette showed similarities to a key-hole hitter, looking for one pitch in particular, a fastball on the inside corner, that he could drive, resulting in a pseudo-patient approach that may be mistaken as a good approach (overly selective). At the hot corner, Bichette was very sound, showcasing a great arm to go along with good actions and demeanor.

8-16-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=130  - Dante Bichette Jr., 3B, Orangewood Christian School (GA) - Bichette is one of the top power bats in the 2011 class. His bat speed is plus, and the balls fly off the bat when he makes contact. However, in both days of batting practice, I did not see him go the other way once. He is pull happy, trying to kill every ball that comes at him. In the game, however, he did go the opposite way a lot and handled the outside pitch well. He is a top follow and will be highly regarded come draft time.
