Cutnpaste: - Do The Math, 99 And Holding, What Went Wrong, Dillon Gee... and Brad Holt

Do The Math:

link   - An equivalent exercise pegs this year's Mets as the 10th-worst team in franchise history, narrowly ahead of the 1980 squad. That a team featuring David Wright, Jose Reyes and Johan Santana can be compared to one with a lineup built around Lee Mazzilli and only one decent starter (Pat Zachry) says a lot about the front office's inability to plug holes in its leaky boat. Recent moves to toss the likes of Alex Cora overboard in favor of younger players like Fernando Martinez may inspire some confidence for the long term, but for now the water is still flooding in.

99 HRs and Holding:

link  - Few people have noticed that Jeff Francoeur, the Mets rightfielder, needs just one more home run to reach 100. Instead of giving him every opportunity to reach the mark (and only 4.35% of all Major League Baseball players have, according to Stats Inc.) the Mets are trying to shove the guy out of their starting lineup. Jeff Francoeur, at age 26, is sitting on 99 career home runs. .The Mets have lost three of their past five games. During that period, center fielder Carlos Beltran has gone 2-for-22. Third baseman David Wright has gone 2-for-23. Shortstop Jose Reyes has made three errors that led to two losses. Yet Mr. Francoeur, who has batted .357 and hit two game-winning home runs over that span, will be relegated to a quasi-platoon in the outfield, manager Jerry Manuel said, now that the team has recalled prospect Fernando Martinez.

What Went Wrong?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/433173-a-season-to-forget-what-mlb-franchise-has-disappointed-the-most - For starters, Jason Bay's season (.259/.347/.405, 102 OPS+, 6 HR) was not exactly what Omar Minaya had in mind. Outside of David Wright and Angel Pagan, the Mets have had mostly mediocre lineup performances, and running Jeff Francoeur's sub-.300 OBP out to the field every day has not helped matters. Reyes and Beltran have not been the same players in 2010 as they have been in the past, as well. Francisco Rodriguez is having a terrific season (10.73 K/9, 3.14 K/BB, 2.67 FIP), but the rest of the bullpen, collectively, has been mediocre.

Dillon Gee:

link  - Dillon Gee, RHP, Grade C: 4.88 ERA, 123/30 K/BB in 127 innings for Buffalo, 135 hits. Good K/BB ratio, good strikeout rate, I think he's pitched better than the ERA although his home run rate is rather high.

Brad Holt:

link  - In a year in which many pitching prospects have hit a wall for the Mets, there are a duo of struggling young arms that the Mets might want to move. There is Brad Holt, the Mets compensatory pick in 2008, has struggled so much he's been demoted to single A St. Lucie. The Mets could even be willing to see how other teams feel about him.
