Justin Turner:
link - Star of the Night - I'm giving it to Buffalo IF Justin Turner off a tremendous 3-for-4 night with three runs and his eighth bomb of the year. Batting .341 over his last ten games, Ruben should be happy we're likely out of it or Turner would be the better option at second right now. Turner has been quite unheralded in 2010 with guys like Tejada and Satin getting most of the attention as far as upper level second basemen but he has been a hell of an addition to this system considering that Omar picked him up off the scrap heap. He's no star but he can absolutely be a strong backup/spot start option as a MI in the majors RIGHT NOW and with five more years on the cheap, that shouldn't be overlooked.
Ollie:
link - At some point doesn’t professional pride resonate with Perez, where he sees that going to Buffalo and then heading to St. Lonesome in the winter to work on being a pitcher, instead of the thrower he has become? Then again you would have to have a little bit going on between your ears and OP seems to be lacking in that, so he is relegated to the Mets version of the NYC Board of Education’s “rubber room” where they send teacher’s who can no longer handle a classroom and pay them full salary and benefits while they figure out what to do with them. If I were the manager of the Mets, I would take all of Perez’ belongings from his locker and leave them in the janitor’s closet and give the locker to Pat Misch. How is OP not embarrassed by the fact, the club never even gave it a thought of giving him the ball today against the Phillies ? Ollie Perez, have you no shame?
Top 5 Prospects:
link - 1. Wilmer Flores, shortstop: While the 19-year-old projects as something other than shortstop at 6 feet 3 and still growing, there is little debate over his hitting skills… 2. Jenrry Mejia, right-handed pitcher: Already with a taste of the majors the flame-throwing right-hander, 20, is back in the minors being groomed for a rotation role… 3. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, center fielder: Very athletic, the 6-3, 210-pounder had 16 homers in 94 games for Class AA Binghamton before promotion to Class AAA… 4. Robert Carson, left-handed pitcher: He may not have the arm of Mejia or Jeurys Familia, but Mets officials compare Carson, 21, to Jonathon Niese with command and a great cutter… 5. Jordany Valdespin, infielder: The Mets love his potential as he has moved up the ladder with athleticism and skills.
Pat Misch:
link - Pat Misch had waited through all of the Mets’ rotation maneuvers this season for a chance, one that finally came Saturday night. Promoted from Class AAA Buffalo, Misch got the start and allowed just one earned run in six innings — three Mets errors contributing to the other three runs he surrendered. It was a good enough performance that Jerry Manuel said Misch will get another turn Thursday in Houston. He had taken an almost Zen-like approach to the long wait for his first turn. Misch was 11-4 at Buffalo and was named to the International League All-Star team, but he watched players drift in and out of the Mets’ rotation without a call until this week.
Ruben Tejada:
link - The Mets have handed Ruben Tejada the starting second base job, but since his recall he has struggled even more at bat than when he was demoted earlier this year. Tejada is 0-for-18 in six games with a pair of walks. He was pinch-hit for in the eighth inning by Luis Castillo, who Manuel said will get the start tonight. Tejada is hitting .180 on the season and Manuel said he’d like to stick with the 20-year-old. "I think what happens is if you’re winning you continue," Manuel said. "When you begin to struggle as a team and not win then you have to check out all other options to see what’s best and how we can keep going. It is a situation where he is a young player and he’s facing some tough pitching at the major league level and you don’t want a guy to get too down."
