15th Round - #470 - RHP Nicholas Grant

2011-Pg  -  Nicholas Grant is a 2012 RHP/3B with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Milford, DE who attends Milford HS. Big thick physical build, good present strength. Works from the stretch, hard front side, high 3/4's arm slot, off balance on release. Upper 80's fastball, touched 90 mph frequently. Nice change up with good arm speed and some sinking action. Short breaking curveball with good shape and spin. Inconsistent command due to delivery issues but has three present pitches and the ability to improve. Very good student.

April 2 – Canes RHP and Milford (DE) high school product Nick Grant has given his commitment to Coach Jim Toman and the Flames of Liberty University. Nick spent the summer of 2011 playing for the Delmarva 17u program and Head Coach Dan Gitzen. Gitzen had this to say about Grant. “Nick has a big time upside on the mound when it comes to his raw arm strength, physical presence and projectability. He has been clocked in the mid 90s and has a plus breaking ball. As he continues he becomes more polished there is no limit to where he could end up.” We would like to congratulate Nick and his family on his commitment to Liberty University.

The state of Delaware has produced big leaguers like OF Derrick May, 2B Delino DeShields, and RHP Ian Snell, but is not known for producing high level D1 picks and draft picks. They have a strong duo for 2012 in RHP Nick Grant and OF Jamie Jarmon. Grant has consistently thrown in the low 90s at PG events and early reports this spring have him in the mid-90s. Jarmon is a big, strong athlete with tools, arm strength and lots of power potential.
