Scouting Report: Arkansas’ Matt Reynolds is a solid, versatile player. After a sophomore campaign that was somewhat of a struggle, he impressed at the Cape and carried that over into the fall and early spring. Reynolds is patient and selective at the plate. He has good bat speed and is an effective baserunner. Reynolds’ swing becomes a bit long at times, something he will have to work continue to work on. Reynolds is a standout defensively. He is starting at third for Arkansas as a junior, but can handle any spot on the infield. He has a strong arm and shows good movement at third.

PG 2010 - Matthew Reynolds is a 2009 MIF with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Tulsa, OK who attends Bishop Kelley. Matthew has a medium athletic frame with strength and room for continued development. He hits from an upright stance and is quiet in the box. He flashes bat speed, and has a solid patient approach at the plate. He uses a short short stride and creates solid contact with some lift at times. His swing is loose and easy and he has a solid line drive swing path. He also shows gap pop with more to come. Defensively his feet work well and he has great body control. He gets to the ball quickly and has a good first step with range to both sides. His arm also works nice and easy with good arm strength. He has usable speed on the bases and he likes to run. Matthew is also a good student.

Jonathan Mayo -

“While he might not be among the top tier of college bats in this class, he has some skills that could translate at the next level. With a balanced set-up at the plate, Reynolds has a good approach and hits line drives. He doesn’t have a ton of power, mostly to the gaps, and is more consistent to the pull side. Without average power, Reynolds will have to learn how to hit to all fields. He’s a heads-up baserunner who will swipe some bases even without particularly good speed. He’s a very good defender, with the potential to be above average with his arm and fielding to go along with solid average range. Reynolds plays mostly third, but has seen time at shortstop, and that kind of flexibility will only help his value. If the bat doesn’t progress, he could have a very good future as a utility type.”
