Tomas Nido, Orangewood Christian (Maitland, Fla.) - Nido is a favorite of mine after studying video and talking to scouts. He stands out in the most important categories as far as tools are concerned — arm strength, receiving and power at the plate. His pop times are above average, but during games he's shown a tendency to open his front side on throws. The hit tool needs work, too, and despite the raw power the swing is long and his hands are busy. He's another Florida State commit and a Day 2 prospect, but he has a chance to end up among the top five prep catchers off the board. http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/baseball/post/_/id/1148/stryker-trahan-is-nation%E2%80%99s-best-backstop
8-22-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/08/22/tomas-nido-2012-draft-profile - In a lineup that included Dante Bichetee Jr and set the Florida record for home runs in a season, the leading home run hitter was Tomas Nido. He hit 17 home runs, setting the Central Florida single season record for home runs. Nido is agressive at the plate and has very good bat speed. He has an uppercut in his swing and shows good power potential. Defensively, Nido possesses good catch and throw skills. He moves well and has soft hands. Nido’s arm is above average and he has a quick release. His reported pop times are from 1.85 to 2.10.

I lovvvveeeee this pick
yeah, this is a good one... beena good day, actually
This is my favorite pick of the day, hands down. I cannot BELIEVE he fell this far. This was a top-5 catcher for me.
Also, there are reports that he's not a great defensive catcher...I disagree with this. He has one of the best pop times in the nation and like every young catcher, could use help on footwork. He could end up being better than Plawecki.
This draft is turning out to be pretty damn good.
Does he have signability issues?
none that I have heard of...
He has a college commitment. I bet he goes overslot. And I'm sure this was the Mets' thinking in the earlier rounds where they took safer guys. I mean it would otherwise seem idiotic to have made some of those picks (the Arkansas 3B comes to mind). And I don't think the Mets' draft team is stupid.
