PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA— St. Lucie Mets righthander Yohan Almonte tossed seven shutout innings and Alonzo Harris homered for the second straight game as the Mets defeated the Clearwater Threshers 3-1 on Wednesday at Digital Domain Park.
Almonte struck out three and issued just one walk while allowing six hits in a season-high seven innings to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Adam Kolarek earned a six-out save for his ninth of the season as he gave up a run on two hits while striking out three in two innings to close the game.
Harris for the second consecutive game drilled a leadoff home run over the left field fence to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the first.
The Mets (46-13) scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to create some distance. Francisco Pena had an RBI groundout to score Wilmer Flores to extend the lead to 2-0. Richard Lucas added an RBI double to right to plate Blake Forsythe.
James Murphy hit a leadoff home run in the ninth off Kolarek to cut the deficit to 3-1. Kolarek bounced back by retiring the next three batters, including a pair of strikeouts.
