Quick Thoughts on the Draft

Stephen and Mack have done an amazing job letting everyone know a lot about the potential top draft picks, and who they think the Mets might pick in today's draft. Personally, I am hoping we pick a bat, preferably a shortstop, catcher or 5-tool outfielder, because there are a lot of arms in this draft but there aren't a lot of top quality bats.

More than likely, the team will be in a quandary- select someone like Dahl, who could be a lethal bat, or may end up another 4th outfielder, OR grab a top quality, hard-to-sign pitcher like McCullers, who last year Mack (and everyone else) felt sure would be the #1 pick in this year's draft but fell down to 12 because of questions about sign-ability.

This draft is truly a crap-shoot because of the new rules, and it will take at least one season until teams get the hang of drafting in this new fashion (and MLB works out the loopholes that will inevitably show through). With a handful of top picks, and based on their track record from last season, I'm betting that they grab one pick that will shock everyone (a stretch for a "toolsy" player) and grab someone else that they didn't think would be there at number 35.

Stay tuned to Mack's Mets for tons of draft coverage, and tomorrow, Mack will be back and give his analysis of day one as well as take over for days 2-3. It was a truly magical weekend for Mets' baseball - let's hope it continues today and we grab the next superstar!!!!

I feel like I've been fired.

Just no surprises today please.

I definitely think the Mets could get an A+ and an A prospect in the first round today.

Here's my ideal (within reason): Max Fried and Lewis Brinson.
