Daily Mets Minors Report – 8-9-12

Date: 8-9-12

MLB –

Of the 93 players with at least 100 at bats since the All-Star break, Bryce Harper has the lowest batting average (.176).

Andrew McCutchen .400/.461/.689 with 15 HR in last 254 PA

MLB - Mets:

Terry Collins - "When you get beat like this tonight, it's one of those games you just check off the calendar and get ready for tomorrow,"

Dave Hudgens being asked what happened to Jason Bay - "There's really no answer,. There is no answer."

AAA – Buffalo:

Thursday

Lucas Duda was scratched minutes before the game began. Adam Rubin reported there was a ‘dental issue’.

Well, I told you, I told you, I told you. 2B Josh Satin got to .302 tonight. Is there no shame for this kid?

AA-Binghamton:

RHP Greg Peavey (5-7, 5.38) makes his 21st start of the season and second against the Rock Cats. After suffering through a nine-game winless streak, Peavey has won two of his last three starts. He defeated the Reading Phillies in his last game on August 4. The righty allowed one earned run and struck out four over seven innings in his second career complete game. Peavey defeated the Rock Cats on July 23 in Connecticut, allowing an unearned run on three hits over seven innings.

LHP Logan Darnell (8-9, 4.99) makes his team-leading 23rd start of the season and second versus Binghamton. The southpaw has lost his last three decisions and failed to throw more than five innings in each of his last four games. Darnell took the loss in his last game against the Bowie Baysox on August 1. He allowed five runs on eight hits and threw just three innings, tied for his shortest outing of the year. In his last four starts, Darnell has gone 0-3 with a 10.00 ERA and allowed 9.25 hits per game. Darnell fired seven shutout innings against the B-Mets in a win on May 22. Darnell was selected in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Kentucky

Thursday – Win, 6-4

SP Greg Peavey threw another AAAA outing: 6.1-IP, 9-H, 4-ER, 4-K, 1-BB, 105-66, 5.40. That’s mucho pitches for 6.1…  he needs to step it up to secure a rotation slot in Buffalo next season.

RP Jeff Kaplan has now had three outings since returning August 4th from the DL and he’s sitting at: 3.2-IP, 1-ER, 3-K, 1-BB.

My ‘rally-name’ conversion to David Havens seems to be working…went 4-5 tonight and has gone 6-9 since the name conversion.

2B Wilmer Flores had three hits too and the 1-2 leadoff combo of Havens-Flores went 7-9.

A+ - St. Lucie:

SP Jake deGrom was transferred from Savannah

Thursday – Win, 5-2

SP Tyler Pill was removed after only two innings. Observers said that he was “all over the place” and his stats didn’t exactly back up:: 2.0-IP,  3-H, 2-R, 0-K, 1-BB… Jack Leathersich continues to dominate after a rough first two weeks at A+ ball (2.0-IP, 0-R, 4-K, 0-BB), and Jeffrey Walters followed with two more scoreless innings (2.14).

C Kai Gronauer was pulled after one at bat… Blake Forsythe seized the opportunity and went: 2-4, 1-R, 6th HR, 3-RBI.

DH Travis Taijeron just can’t get the A+ thing going: .183.

A – Savannah:

SP Yohan Almonte was transferred from St. Lucie.

Thursday – the game was suspended after one inning when a real ugly storm rumbled through the ‘Coastal Empire’.

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Dave Gershman‏ -

Q - Has Brandon Nimmo been the best player you've seen this year ?

A -  Yes sir  (see, I told you this was a great pick…)

Thursday – Loss, 1-3

Luis Cessa (4.50 for the night) gave up two homers which were the clincher. Only three Clones hits.

Rookie – Kingsport:
MiLB.com said that the Kingsport game had been ‘cancelled’. It didn’t say there was a rainout. It said ‘cancelled’. Do you think there is any chance that they just decided since the team plays so bad that they’d just award a win to Bristol and get back on the bus?
