11-19-13 - J.J. Schwarz (C) - High School: Palm Beach Gardens - I admit
it. I took a look at this guy strictly because of his first initial and last
name (J. Schwarz). However, upon further review, this 17-year-old University of
Florida signee looks to have quite the potent bat with gap-to-gap power. Early
reports from this summer’s East Coast Pro Showcase indicate that he has quite
the arm as well–picking off two runners in a game. He was also a key performer
on the Gold-medal winning 18-and-under Team USA squad at the World Cup. I am
almost certain he will end up playing college ball at Florida instead of
signing, but like I said, I just had to check out a guy with the same name as

.429/.452/.536 to help the US win the gold medal in Taiwan. He shows big-time
power potential due to his excellent bat speed and strong wrists. With good
footwork and a strong arm, he has a legit shot to remain at catcher and scouts

stood out most for me at East Coast Pro, where he showed an ability to impact
the game in the box and behind the plate. Offensively he shows some whip in the
barrel and has no trouble producing hard contact and carry to the gaps.
Defensively his actions are sound and the arm is a tick above average, which
he’s not afraid to show-off via backpicks. He was one of the more consistent
performers throughout the summer and fall, with particularly impressive
showings with Team USA, at East Coast Pro, with FTB Mizuno in Jupiter, and at
the Diamond Club Showcase. He profiles as a sound defender with the chance to
hit for average power and could garner early-round attention with a solid
