This is absolutely the correct move.

Just goes to show you that these two guys are still neck and neck in the position battle and the club is giving Mejia a LEGITIMATE shot

That's only one side of the financial equation. Mejia being promoted means his arbitration clock starts ticking sooner rather than later. I'll believe it when I see Mejia in Queens but as a betting man my money is on them to pick the cheaper option in Dice-K.

Reese, while thinking of Jennry's arb clock, remember that Mejia has limited innings for 2014 - be a crying shame to waste those in Vegas. He'd start for many major league teams. (I was just going to compare him to Pelfrey, but Pelf's thrown OK, if for only 11 innings. But boy, Worley , Corrasco, Correia, and Diamond for Twins have given up 48 runs in 50 innings this spring - I'm sure they'd want a guy like Jennry). We Want Jennry!

press conference coming up...

my guess...

Dice gets SP5... Meja stays in Queens until 4-6

@Reese and Tom

Mejia's arb clock was started back in 2010. He has 1.140 years of service time already and is in line to be arb eligible at the end of next season.

hmmm...So would they pay Dice-K 100k for the option to send him down....and then not send him down?

@Craig.

Exactly....this tells me that Mejia has some SERIOUS support from the front office that they are willing to give Matsuzaka a $100k bonus just to give Mejia another start to try and win the job.

In addition they also feel Matsuzaka is valuable enough to keep in AAA in case someone goes down early in the season. They won't call up Thor or Montero before 6/15
