Bartolo Colon had another terrific outing and Bobby Abreu
went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI, The Mets beat the Padres Friday night 6-2. The start
of the game was delayed almost 2 hours by rain. When it started Colon was a
little bit rusty, he got out of a 1st and 2nd no out jam
in the top of the 1st. In the 2nd he allowed a single by
Yonder Alonso and then a two run homer by Rene Rivera (5) and the Padres led
2-0. After that Colon shut the door, retiring 18 straight up to the 8th
inning when Alexi Amarista doubled. The Mets scored a run in the 2nd,
two in the 4th and one in the 5th. Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Ruben
Tejada added 2 hits and an RBI. Taylor Teagarden also drove in a run with an RBI
single. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 3 and
extended his hitting streak to 7 games. In the bottom of the 7th the
Mets pulled away scoring 2 more on a sac-fly by David Wright and a RBI single
by Abreu. Abreu had his first 4 hit night since 2011 and easily is the most production
the Mets have seen in the clean-up spot in a while. Colon went 7 1/3 allowed 4 hits 2 runs (both
earned) he walked 1 and struck out 7. Josh Edgin came on and retired one and
walked two and was relieved by Vic Black. Black got Carlos Quentin on a slow
grounder to third to end the inning. Jeurrys Familia pitched the 9th
to wrap it all up. Colon gets the win he improves to 6-5. Andrew Cashner
started for the Padres and just of the DL didn’t have it allowing 4 runs on 8
hits in 6 innings. He takes the loss and falls to 2-6. With the win the Mets
improve to 30-37 on the year and 15-19 at home. Saturday afternoon it’s the 2nd
game of the series. Zach Wheeler (2-6
4.19) goes for the Mets, Jesse Hahn (0-1 9.82) goes for San Diego.

When things look bleak, it is great that a team like SD can visit...maybe we sweep and get things turned around
