Tuesday night at Wrigley field the Cubs scored three times
in the bottom of the 5th inning, they go on to beat the Mets
5-4. The Mets have now dropped two
straight games to a struggling Chicago club.
Daisuke Matsuzaka started and was staked to a 3-0 lead out of the gate
in the 1st. With 2nd
and 3rd and 1 out Starling Castro booted a grounder by Bobby Abreu
to make it 1-0. Then Lucas Duda make it 3-0 on a lined 2 run double to
left. In the bottom of the frame Dice-K
spot starting on 3 days rest yielded a pair
of runs on two hits to make it 3-2. In
the 4th the resurgence of Ruben Tejada continued as he hit a solo
homer into the wind in left off Edwin Jackson to give the Mets a 4-2 lead. For Tejada it was his 2nd homer on the
season and on this road trip. In the 5th Matsuzaka tired and left
the game with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd for Dana
Eveland. After a single to Anthony Rizzo
loaded the bases, Castro stroked a 2 run single to tie the game. Jeurys Familia
replaced Eveland and then uncorked a wild pitch scoring Castro with the go
ahead and eventual winning run from third and it was 5-4 Cubs. After that the Mets where held at bay by 6
pitchers out of the Cub bullpen, with Hector Rondon retiring the side in the 9th
earning his 7th save. Dice-K
went 4 1/3 allowing 4 hits 4 runs (all earned) walking 4 and striking out 2. Eveland
gets nabbed with the loss he falls to 0-1. Jackson gets the win he’s now 4-5. The
Mets managed 7 hits on the game. Daniel
Murphy went 3 for 5, Curtis Granderson went 2 for 5. The Mets are now 28-31 on the year and 15-14 on
the road. Thursday night the Mets look
to salvage the final game of the series. Jacob deGrom (0-2 2.42) goes for the Mets, Travis Wood
(5-5 5.15) goes for Chicago.
