June 4th 2014 -- Cubs 5, Mets 4

Tuesday night at Wrigley field the Cubs scored three times in the bottom of the 5th inning, they go on to beat the Mets 5-4.  The Mets have now dropped two straight games to a struggling Chicago club.  Daisuke Matsuzaka started and was staked to a 3-0 lead out of the gate in the 1st.  With 2nd and 3rd and 1 out Starling Castro booted a grounder by Bobby Abreu to make it 1-0. Then Lucas Duda make it 3-0 on a lined 2 run double to left.  In the bottom of the frame Dice-K spot starting on 3 days rest  yielded a pair of runs on two hits to make it 3-2.  In the 4th the resurgence of Ruben Tejada continued as he hit a solo homer into the wind in left off Edwin Jackson to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.  For Tejada it was his 2nd homer on the season and on this road trip. In the 5th Matsuzaka tired and left the game with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd for Dana Eveland.  After a single to Anthony Rizzo loaded the bases, Castro stroked a 2 run single to tie the game. Jeurys Familia replaced Eveland and then uncorked a wild pitch scoring Castro with the go ahead and eventual winning run from third and it was 5-4 Cubs.  After that the Mets where held at bay by 6 pitchers out of the Cub bullpen, with Hector Rondon retiring the side in the 9th earning his 7th save.  Dice-K went 4 1/3 allowing 4 hits 4 runs (all earned) walking 4 and striking out 2. Eveland gets nabbed with the loss he falls to 0-1. Jackson gets the win he’s now 4-5. The Mets managed 7 hits on the game.  Daniel Murphy went 3 for 5, Curtis Granderson went 2 for 5.  The Mets are now 28-31 on the year and 15-14 on the road.  Thursday night the Mets look to salvage the final game of the series. Jacob deGrom (0-2  2.42) goes for the Mets, Travis Wood (5-5  5.15) goes for Chicago.

Bat Ruben clean up.

Last 2 games are the kind that losing teams lose and winning teams find ways to win.
