Friday night in San Francisco, Buster Posey broke a 2 all
tie in the bottom of the 8th inning with a 2 run homer (8) off
Carlos Torres. The Mets drop their 4th straight, losing to the
Giants 4-2. The game began as a pitcher’s
duel between Jon Niese and Matt Cain.
The Giants broke through first taking a 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th on a sac-fly by Brandon Crawford. In the top
of the 7th the Mets took the lead when Daniel Murphy clubbed a two
run homer (4) to make it 2-1 Mets. The Giants tied the game up in the bottom of
the frame on a RBI single by Crawford.
In the bottom of the 8th, Torres came in and uncharacteristically
walked Angel Pagan. Then after a fielder’s choice moved Pagan to scoring position,
Posey hit a long homer to left center that proved to be the game winner. Niese
went 7 he allowed 5 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 1 and struck out
3. Cain had an identical line except
allowed just 3 hits. Both starters got no-decisions. Torres gets the loss he falls to 2-3. Jeremy
Affeldt got the win he’s 1-1. Sergio Romo notched his 19th save. The Mets only managed 4 hits on the night.
Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3. Posey had 3
hits for the Giants. The Giants are the first team to hit 40 wins on the year.
The Mets fall to 28-33 and are now 15-16
on the road. Saturday a pair of veterans face off. Bartolo Colon (5-5 4.52)
goes for the Mets. Tim Hudson (6-2 1.75) goes for the Giants.
