I’m back home, but this will probably be an abbreviated Morning Report again. I’ll be back up to speed tomorrow morning.

(Did I miss anything?)

I’ve received some more emails regarding the difficulty some of you are having leaving comments on this Flogger site. Once again, I apologize for something I don’t have a solution for. Christopher Soto keeps trying to fix it so keep your fingers crossed. And remember… you can always send me an email to macksmets@gmail.com and ask m anything you want. I will gladly answer your questions on the next day’s Morning report.

Gonzalez Germen pitched 0.1 innings of scoreless rehab last night for St. Lucie.

Boy, just when you thought things hit rock bottom, here comes the news on RP/CL RHP Jeffrey Walters.

What a difference a year makes. 2013 brought a record 38 saves for Binghamton and so far, in 2014, all he managed to produce was an 8.86 ERA.

A tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow pretty much definitely means Tommy John surgery, which will set Walters back until he’s 28-years old.

The good news here is the Mets may have identified why he has basically been unproductive this year. His career is far from over and we wish him well if he choses surgery.

From Chase Bradford (on Facebook), who was promoted from Binghamton to fill the void in the roster:

“Excited to get back to Vegas to suit up for the Las Vegas 51s. Four years ago I didn't think it was possible to get where I am but with the love and support of my family got there but they know and I know we are done yet. For all the guys who I have played with and are good friends, I play for u and we aren't done yet. Excited for the promotion but the job isn't done. I love you all and can't wait to see u out at Cashman.”

We talk all the time about seizing the moment and making the best of an opportunity. Juan Lagares did that last year. Eric Campbell (.302) seems to be doing it this year.

2010 4th round draft pick, OF Cory Vaughn, was one of the league leaders in 2012 for St. Lucie , in both home runs (23) and runs batted in (65). Frankly, it’s been downhill since then and he was having a horrible year this season for Binghamton (174-AB, .190).

Then, Las Vegas almost ran out of outfielders and Vaughn was the most seasoned on the B-Mets staff. He has been sent to the 51’s for, at least, temporary duty.

So far, going into Monday night, he’s gone 4-14, with one home run and a slash line of .285/.375/.500/.875

Let’s keep an eye on this one and see if he can find the magic he had a couple of years ago.

SS Yeixon Ruiz showed up on the St. Lucie roster while I was gone. St. Lucie has never been famous for sending out releases on roster changes so we have no details here other than the fact that SS Phillip Evans went on the 7-day DL also while I was gone.

It’s nice to see Ruiz getting some A+ ime. He had a very nice year in 2013 with Kingsport, hitting .304 in 194 at-bats. He’s 23-years old

Campbell had figured out how to take his game to the next level, and I think he will play very well if he gets consistent playing time. Cory has to fix the strikeout syndrome which he has battled his whole career...I wish him well, but if he falters, I'd release him soon so he can latch on elsewhere to pursue the dream, and not, for instance, block Puello from playing every single day to see if he can get back on track.

Mack - I'm wondering what happens with Plawecki now that D'Arnaud is down in AAA. What if D'Arnaud never gets it together? How do you hold Plawecki back?

your thoughts?

Ernest Dove said...

This is my number on concern as well........Mets keep preaching crap about prospects having to show some long term success at all levels to earn promotions.....well, Plawecki is probably having the best overall minor league season of any hitting prospect in their system....
And, to be brutaly honest, its not his fault that TDA hasn't worked out so far in the majors.....
50 at bats in the desert is not going to solve the issue of hitting major league pitching.

IB - It's funny that you bring that up. I just finished writing my toughts about that subject for tomorrow morning's report (poor Centeno).

My guess... today... is Plawecki will remain in Binghamton until d'Arnaud gets called back up to Queens.

First rule of prospect management... NEVER get in the way of their upward movement when they are ready.

The only other option I see is trading Plawecki... d'Arnaud has no trade value right now.

All the more reason Centeno should be playing right now to build up HIS trade value. Recker and Teagarden are clones -- occasional power but .200 hitters. Centeno could be more than that (minus the power, of course). Is he Jason Kendall or Josh Thole? You won't know unless you play him.

Mack Ade said...

You are absolutely correct Reese, especially in a year that is obviously going into another rebuild

Ernest Dove said...

So.....thanks to almighty contract/outclause, we get to spend the next few weeks watching teagarden, just like Farnsworth, and valverde before him, underperform until they eventually release him..

Ernest -

I was out of town for 4 days and didn't have the time to 'hunt the dog' and try and find out some logic regarding this platoon.

These does seem to be some man-love for Recker, but I don't understand how Teagarden gets the nod over Centeno... except... there was a money deadline that the Mets had to address...

isn't it always money when it comes to the Mets?

That Adam Smith said...

And here we go again... C Young in LF hitting 5th. Someone please, please explain this to me. Do we think that Brown and Campbell can't hit .200 in the bigs? If so, why are they here? And Flores rotting on the bench. When Sandy showed up, and it became obvious we were headed for a major re-build, I was in favor. But shouldn't rebuilding include seeing some of your young guys actually get a chance to succeed? Chris Young? Hitting 5th again? Really? Does the concept of sunk costs mean nothing to these guys? Keep trotting him out there until... what exactly? Are the Wilpons forcing them to play him as punishment for wasting their $7 mil? Who thinks this is a good idea? Are they watching the same games that I am? Are they trying to alienate the several dozen fans who still care about this team? Will they cut bait on the guy if he's still hitting .200 on July 4th? At the All-Star break? in mid-August? For chrissakes, I just don't understand the thought process here.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Adam -

That's okay Adam. I have 17 writers and I get less than one original post a day lately. It's tough to keep writing the same things about this team when they don't seem to be tring to put out a quality product.

As for Chris Young, I'm not a big fan here, but I do want to find another team that will take him off our hands before the trade deadline ends. The only way that is going to happen is if he catches fire.

Re Flores - just stupid
