Friday night in Flushing David Wright went 4 for 4 with a
homer and 2 RBI and Zach Wheeler was sharp, the Mets roll to a 7-1 win over the
Marlins. The Mets peppered the Marlins with 12 hits on the night. The victim
was Henderson Alvarez. Alvarez who has mastered the Mets this year took his
lumps in the game. In the 2nd
an RBI single by Ruben Tejada and a long RBI double by Wheeler made it 2-0. In
the third Lucas Duda launched a long two run homer, his 14th on the
year and the rout was on. Wright led the way for the 4 hits and his 8th
homer. Juan Lagares went 3 for 4 with an RBI double. Wheeler had it under
control on the mound going 6 2/3 allowing 5 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and
struck out 6. Vic Black, Josh Edgin and Jeurys Familia all pitched scoreless
relief to end it. Wheeler earns the win he’s now 5-8. Alvarez allowed 6 runs on
8 hits in 5 innings takes the loss falling to 6-4. With the win the Mets
improve to 43-50 and are now 23-23 at Citi Field. They also gain a game on the
first place Braves, who lost to the Nationals. Saturday afternoon is game 2 of
the series. Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-3 3.32)
goes for the Mets. Tom Koehler (6-7 3.98) goes for Miami.
