FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Bartolo Colon has cleared revocable waivers.
It means that he can now be traded to any team, and there would seem to be a good chance a deal goes down. The Angels in particular would make a lot of sense as a landing spot for Colon, who holds a 3.82 ERA and 130/22 K/BB ratio over 167 1/3 innings this season. He's making $9 million this season and is owed $11 million in 2015. Aug 25 - 6:41 PM

This seems like bad news to me. I'd expect if a team was interested in acquiring this contract that they'd have made a claim. No?

If they put in a claim then they would be on the hook for the full salary. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to be dealt now, but Alderson must realize he's going to have to kick in some salary dollars.

If Colon was 35, he'd have been traded by now. 11 mill for 200 innings and an ERA under 4 is a bargain. The one yr deal makes it more attractive.

However, teams will use his age as a negotiation tactic in any trade talks. Sandy has a history of holding out for a good deal. Except for one deal where he needed to unload the player in order to clear payroll.

That was the K Rod deal and his 17 million dollar vesting option. Sandy took a 5'9" relief pitcher that had his best Mets' moment when he traded uniforms with the 6'11" Jon Rauch and took a picture of it.

I think Colon may get dealt. But in this case it'll be for a complete waste of a minor league roster spot. It's the 11 million he really wants to part with.

He really doesn't have to trade him now though. This late in the season, he could wait til January and find a desperate team. There's always that hope and he is a very smart and patient GM in terms of maximizing returns.

We'll see...

Charles -

This kind of negotiation changes if the team Alderson is talking to is desperate for a pitcher in August.

Alderson is good at these things at this time of the season... I think the Byrd trade was the same dates as this week, but last year.

I believe he can get a major prospect chip like Bedrosian... AND an A-level prospect as well

As you said, we'll see...
