Monday night in San Diego, Daniel Murphy went 4 for 5 with
this 4th homer and 3 RBI while Jacob deGrom was nearly unhittable.
The Mets blank the Padres 7-0.
The Mets hit the road on the west coast with a bang getting off to a 2 run lead in the top of the first. The red hot Ruben Tejada hit a ground rule double. Murphy wasted no time singling him home for a 1-0 lead. Murph then scored when Will Middlebrooks threw away a Darrell Ceciliani grounder and it was 2-0. In the 4th the Mets scored 4 more times. Murph homered scoring himself and Tejada for a 4-0 lead. Juan Lagares and Ceciliani followed with RBI singles (for Ceciliani is first ML RBI) for a 6-0 Met lead. deGrom was perfect through 5. Clint Barmes led off the 6th with a single breaking the spell, but deGrom was still brilliant going 8 innings yielding just 2 hits striking out 8. The Mets scored run 7 in the top of the 7th Murphy doubled, his 4th hit on the game and Flores singled him home.
Juan Lagares and Flores had 2 hits each, Tejada went 3 for 5 as he and Murphy paced a 13 hit Met attack.
deGrom gets the win he’s now 6-4 as he and Sean Gilmartin combine on the 2 hit shutout. Andrew Cashner who struck out 12 (The Padres tallied 16) in 4 2/3 took the loss he’s 2-8.
With the win the Mets improve to 29-23 on the year and are now 8-15 on the road. The Nats game was rained out so the Mets climb into a tie for first in the NL East with the victory. They take the 1st game of this three game set. Tuesday night it’s game 2. Noah Syndergaard (2-2 1.85) goes for the Mets, Ian Kennedy (2-5 7.15) goes for Friars.

Ceciliani gets a start out of NY's glare and picks up a hit and RBI. He is a realcspeedster. If I am the Mets, get him a few more road starts and see if he can kick- start.
Murphy is essential to this struggling offense. Jake is great, period. Cashner must have been like looking at early Nolan Ryan...lots of offense, but 12 of his 14 outs on K's. Phew. Wished I saw that,
