The Mets have signed right-handed pitcher Cory Burns to a minor-league contract, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
Burns, 29, spent the 2016 season pitching with the Independent Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League where he went 0-3 with a 2.17 ERA and 31 saves in 55 games.
He was originally drafted by the Indians in the eighth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and made his major league debut on August 4, 2012 against the Mets while playing for the Padres.
Burns last appeared in the major leagues in 2013 with the Rangers.
In 27 career major league games, he is 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 29.1 innings.
He had 417 strikeouts during his 369 innings in the minor leagues.
