Good to see Mickey Callaway is not pig-headed.
Today's starting outfield is McNeil, Broxton, and Conforto.
Nats starter Max Scherzer is a markedly better pitcher in his career against righty hitters (like Broxton).
So why is Brandon Nimmo not playing?
Perhaps because he is having what might be the worst hitter's season start in Mets history, that's why.
Yesterday, Callaway did start Nimmo against tough lefty Patrick Corbin, despite his severe slump and the availability of righty-hitting Juan Lagares to start in the OF in Nimmo's place.
Mistake.
Nimmo was 0 for 3 with 3 Ks.
The Mets won, but Mickey increased the Mets' chances of losing by starting Nimmo.
Brandon has just 2 singles in 26 at bats, with an astonishing 17 strikeouts. Those are what you'd expect of a bad hitting pitcher's stats.
Nimmo was 0 for 3 with 3 Ks against Scherzer in 2019's season opener. Glad to see Callaway was not up for a repeat of that. So, I would imagine, is Nimmo right now.
Nimmo has started so poorly, he is in Chris Davis territory...Davis is 0 for 19 with 11 Ks...that is territory a hitter does not want to find himself in.
Let's beat Mighty Mad Max today and set the Harper-less, Turner-less Nats back a bit, shall we? We have the optimal line up to do it.
And no doubt Zach Wheeler would like to beat Max and show he is the dominant pitcher Zach was in the 2nd half of 2018.

Happy Zach turned into Crappy Zach today. Which, to me, is scary for this team - he looks like he is back to being bad Zach. They need him to be Great Zach.
All the more reason to look at Dallas Keuchel and let Wheeler walk away.
Reese, the Mets should get totally bold and go out and get Keuchel and Kimbrel. If this is the 2019 version of Zach Wheeler, it will be a LONG season.
Todd Frazier is 2 for 4 today - Guillorme could be sent down and Frazier added after today.
Tough to score 9 runs in a game Mad Max starts in, and lose anyway. Very tough.
