Disappointed to see Colome sign for 1/$5 with Twins.
The Mets bullpen is just barely, faintly improved and this has been an offseason where improvement was there for the taking.
But I guess Sandy has been busy with sensitivity training this week.

Jimmy - I think Sandy wants to move Familia and maybe Betances as well before getting other bullpen arms. Such a trade will have to mirror the Sox-Yankee trade of Ottovino plus prospects.
Maybe.
Meanwhile, Soria gets signed for 1/$3.5.
Why is anyone trading for Familia or Benetiz? And we throw in a prospect, too? To save how much?
I don't see it.
1) I like Familia, he's durable and hardworking and I still think he's capable of being a semi-reliable body back there. Forget the money, it's already spent. I don't see that giving him, $6 million, and a prospect away puts the Mets in a better position. Again: The D-Backs just signed Soria for one year at $3.5. Why fart around with the Mets?
2) Betances hasn't thrown injury free in the past two years. Again, I just don't get the idea that there's some really dumb organization out there eager to snap him up. If he rebounds -- and it's possible -- that's great. If not, oh well, that money is already spent.
Diaz, Lugo, May. That's great.
There are certainly "roster flexibility" issues in running any bullpen. It's pretty complex. And vets make it much harder. You can fake an injury for a bit, but you can't shuffle a guy down to AAA just because he's no good anymore.
I wish the team had one more dependable late-inning guy not named Hope, Wish, or Prayer.

Jimmy, what about Loup? And perhaps they know that Gsellman is feeling great (or not). Gsellman falls into the Betances category - except he was never nearly as good.
No one talks about Tylor Megill any more, and probably rightly so, since he was an Invisible Man in 2020. Maybe he'll surprise us. Or Ryley Gilliam or Kilome or even the other Invisible Man, Tom Szapucki.
I know in recent years those sorts of surprises were bad surprises. Luck's got to change sometime.
Loup to me is a cheap LOOGY. He certainly doesn't look better to me than Wilson. It feels like a step down to me.

I think there are guys who maybe will step up, work out, be terrific. I would have liked -- and still would like -- the addition of one more dependable, late-inning guy, to the extent that trait even exists for relievers.
Gsellman as a two-inning guy, the last one out of the pen? Sure, whatever. I would have liked to see the Mets do better there, too.

Hey Jimmy . . Isn't that the mantra for all of us armchair managers? I could be wrong .. that's why we're not making the big bucks working for Sandy.
