Lansville isn’t going to wow you at first glance. Not a ton of projection left, not a big frame to get overly excited about, but man can this kid pitch. Simple, easy and repeatable mechanics. A Fastball sitting 91-93 MPH, 2350-2450 RPM, with command to both sides of the plate and ability to miss bats. His best pitch, a Slider 82-84 MPH, 2600 RPM, that grades as Plus with gyro movement and misses bats at a good rate. Rounding out the 4-pitch mix is a Changeup, League-average and a Curveball that he shows feel for but undoubtedly needs a bit of development left.

It seems like the state of Colorado produces a top prep pitching prospect every year. In 2021, that arm is Lansville, a 6 feet, 205-pound righthander who has a good feel for pitching along with solid stuff. Lansville throws out of a short, spiraling arm action and a higher, three-quarter slot. He was one of the better strike throwers at the Perfect Game All-American Classic and worked an efficient, 1-2-3 inning. In terms of stuff, Lansville throws a fastball in the 89-92 mph range and gets it up to 94 at the top end. The pitch has slight arm side running life, and he pairs it with a mid-80s changeup and a breaking ball in the low 80s that has 60-grade potential. The pitch has impressive bite and good spin, and has been a swing-and-miss offering for him now. Lansville doesn’t have a ton of physical projection, but the Louisiana State commit is a fairly refined and polished pitcher now.

Lansville was one of the more underrated arms in the class until he broke out at PG National. Lansville generates above-average vertical break on his FB to go with above-average extension thanks to his feel for drifting down the mound and extending his trunk forward at ball release. The intersection of above-average vertical break and extension leads to a FB that has good ride coming from a low release height; this intersection makes his FB appear to play better than probably similar pitches at the same velocity and vertical break but with a higher release height. Also flashes a high spin, gyro heavy slider Lansville is sound mechanically with an efficient lead leg block and an on time arm. Lansville could have some reverse projectability, as he's still physically immature and might stand to gain velocity as he gets rid of some baby fat.

Cale Lansville is a 2021 RHP/MIF with a 6-0 205 lb. frame from Centennial, CO who attends Thunder Ridge. Strong and compact athletic build, especially strong in the lower half. Simple side step/turn and throw delivery, very compact arm action going to a high 3/4's arm slot, has a fast arm, steady slow paced mechanics, hides the ball very well and creates deception. Fastball topped out at 94 mph, gets nice running life at times and velocity plays up. Tight power curveball with downer bite, has a very consistent feel for his curveball and tunnels it well. Cut a fastball or change up at 86 mph that can be further developed. Created lots of uncomfortable swings mixing pitches and attacking the lower part of the zone.

While his velocity wasn’t quite at the same level, he still showed the same traits this week that made him appealing a few months ago. For starters, Lansville generates above-average vertical break on his FB to go with above-average extension thanks to his feel for drifting down the mound and extending his trunk forward at ball release. The intersection of above-average vertical break and extension leads to a FB that has good ride coming from a low release height; this intersection makes his FB appear to play better than probably similar pitches at the same velocity and vertical break but with a higher release height. What’s interesting about Lansville is that he also flashes a high spin, gyro heavy slider which is somewhat unusual given his excessive trunk tilt - guys who implement that tend to throw with less spin/depth on their breaking balls which is what makes Lansville unique; he doesn’t have crazy low spin, and actually has high spin and solid depth (on his curveball, his slider is gyro heavy so it doesn’t move a whole lot). Lansville is sound mechanically with an efficient lead leg block (juxtaposing his lead leg block with Christian Little’s is pretty illuminating) and an on time arm. Lansville could have some reverse projectability, as he’s still physically immature and might stand to gain velocity as he gets rid of some baby fat.
