Post: Mets’ lack of games playing role in slow start: ‘Thing we’re missing’
“Confined to indoor work in the absence of games, Mets batters have been
turning to pitching machines that can offer both breaking balls and high velocity.
But those can only help so much. ‘Once we start playing games and we can
translate some of the things we’ve been doing to the games and guys get their
repetitions, we’re going to get everyone ready, competing at their best,’ Rojas
said.”

Mets' Carlos
Carrasco to soon throw five innings as he ramps up rehab from torn
hamstring. Luis
Rojas also gave updates on Seth Lugo,
Drew
Smith “Lugo is playing catch. He hasn’t thrown off the slope yet. That can
potentially be next week," he said. As for Smith, he has been dealing with
right shoulder soreness that ended his spring training early. Rojas said that
he is playing catch as well.”
Joel
Sherman NY Post: Phillies’ revamped bullpen making all the difference. “It
was just nine games, but what cannot be missed is that the Phils have added
heat to their pen…and the team went from being ranked 23rd in that area to
fifth. Not surprisingly, the bullpen strikeout rate was up from 22.9 percent to
26.5.”
Carlos Carrasco (torn right hamstring) will fly soon to the Mets' alternate site in Brooklyn to begin doing fielding work. He's stretched out to four innings on the mound and "is doing really good right now," per Luis Rojas.

Rojas added: "It's a week-to-week approach."

Abriano SNY.TV: Is it time for Mets to worry about Michael Conforto? As far
as not being clutch Danny noted this: “Michael Conforto
is not only a very good clutch player, but one whose career numbers with
runners in scoring position are better than his numbers without runners in scoring
position. In 628 career plate appearances with runners in scoring position, he
is hitting .269/.392/.509 with 29 homers and 31 doubles. In 1,402 plate
appearances without runners on base, Conforto has hit .253/.350/.482.”

The net present value of $332M is one estimate of the Lindor deal value. That figure accounts for $ deferred, the time it’s paid and interest rate and lessens the deal value by $9M. Still obviously a fantastic deal for Francisco, better than the Betts deal by NPV by about $30M https://t.co/x66rLAU8BF

1962 |
On a wintry day, the Mets play
their first home game ever when only 12,000 fans show up at the Polo Grounds
to see the return of National League baseball to the Big Apple. On Friday the
13th, the Pirates score the decisive run on two eighth-inning wild pitches
thrown by Ray Diavault, beating the New York expansion team, 4-3. |
1983 |
The Phillies, trailing by five
runs entering the final frame, beat the Mets, 10-9, when Bo Diaz hits a walk-off bases-loaded home run. The Philadelphia
catcher's 'ultimate grand slam', a home run which wins a game when a team is
down by three runs in the bottom of the final inning, is tossed by Neil
Allen, who faces only the final batter.
|
2012 |
Josh
Thole's bizarre base running blunder
leads to a very odd double play in the second inning of the Mets' 5-2 victory
at Citizens Bank Park. After successfully reaching second base on R.A.
Dickey's sacrifice bunt, the 25 year-old
Mets' catcher shocks everyone, including the Philadelphia defense, by trying
to return to first base, where he is tagged out to complete the unusual
3-1-6-4 twin killing. |
2009:
San Diego beats the Mets, 6 - 5, in the first game to be played at Citi
Field in New York. The first batter of the game, Jody Gerut,
hits a home run off Mike
Pelfrey as the Padres jump to an early 5 - 1 lead. New York ties it
on a three-run home run by David
Wright, but the winning run scores when Luis
RodrÃguez reaches on a three-base error by RF Ryan Church
and crosses the plate when Pedro
Feliciano commits a balk.
2013 - Matt Harvey takes a no-hitter into the 7th inning, until the Twins' Justin Morneau hits a homer that clanks against the right field foul pole at Target Field with two outs. Harvey has the longest outing of his career, giving up only two hits in 8 innings in the Mets' 4 - 2 win. The Mets have seven consecutive hits in the 5th to score all their runs.
2017 - In the longest game yet played at Marlins Park, the Mets defeat Miami, 9 - 8, on a homer by Travis d'Arnaud in the 16th inning. Mets starter Robert Gsellman gives up 8 runs in 4 2/3 innings, but seven relievers combine to pitch 10 1/3 scoreless innings. Yoenis Cespedes hits a pair of homers, while d'Arnaud has four hits, including a bases-loaded triple and his game-winning homer off Adam Conley, who had been scheduled to start the next day. For the Marlins, Marcell Ozuna hits a grand slam in the 1st.

So many updates, but it all boils down to this: Let's play TWO...and let's WIN two.
Mets need to play a bit more regularly before we can panic. As others have said - at this rate Thor, Lugo, and Carrasco will end up not missing much time at all. Hope the weather gets better here and in Colorado over the next week.
Carrasco seems a lot closer than his original possible timetable. Maybe this month? But he has to get up to hit thanks to the idiot who run things in baseball. My advice: just stand there. We need him to pitch, not hit. He seems to make good contact as a hitter (8 Ks in 21 at bats), so hopefully he is not tempted to hit and run.
If Lugo is just playing catch, he seems a month away.
Thor is probably ready now, but they will follow the clock.
I wonder if there were ever a ton of cancellations due to COVID, if they could play tripleheader - 3 games of 6 innings each. That would be a trip.
I have been pretty worried about Acura in the past, now I’m deathly afraid of him. He is a game changer all by himself. Throw in that loser from first base, Albies and TDA, and that what I fear in Atlanta. Don’t lose much sleep over Ozuna, Swanson, and whoever is at third nowadays.
Acuna and Soto are two huge headaches for the Mets for a decade to come.
Our stars fall short of those guys - by a lot.
And we had Acuna Sr. and Tatis Sr. and didn't follow up to get the kids. It happens.
Hoping the outfielders we did get from Latin America - Freddy Valdez, Adrian Hernandez, and Alexander Ramirez do well this year in the minors. They could possibly all start in the same outfield in St. Lucie or Brooklyn.
