With Pete Alonso going to the
IL, wanted to see if J.D. Davis was capable of
going over there; "Better to find out
here than in the [big leagues]".
Thomas Szapucki to start
tomorrow for Syracuse. Syracuse pitchers
still may be an option when the Mets head back to NY next week.
The plan with Seth Lugo is to build him
up to throw two innings. Chad thought he
started to lose velocity the deeper he went into his outing. When this happened he started to work on his
breaking ball. They will see how he
recovers after tonight. He most likely
will pitch again Sunday.
Chad Kreuter has no time frame on Noah Syndergaard’s rehab
or if will be coming to Syracuse. He thought
it would be possible that he would be in Syracuse at some point due their
location in Central NY.
Martin
Cervenka is limited to just hitting due to an injury to his throwing
arm. That leaves Nick
Meyer and Bruce
Maxwell as the only players that can catch on the roster.
Chad said that Nick Meyer is very versatile and has good
speed. If there was an injury to an infielder
tonight, Nick would have gone into play 2B.
He thinks he may be able to use him in the outfield as well.
Chad said that Binghamton is also strapped. No reinforcements on way from AA. Chad expects once NY starts to get healthy, the Syracuse players up there will start to come back.
Syracuse Mets manager Chad Kreuter says J.D. Davis played 1st base tonight to give the Mets an option with Pete Alonso going on the IL, and will remain with Syracuse on his rehab assignment through Sunday
