Mets.com:
- 'Wasn't my day': Rare Díaz loss sinks Mets
- deGrom says shoulder issue came on swing
- Stat of the Day: Joey Fuego is on fire - Joey Lucchesi posted a 9.19 ERA in his first six outings of the season, but he has since produced a 1.19 ERA in five starts. The southpaw has credited that to a more regular routine as a member of the rotation, plus some mechanical adjustments that have stopped him from tipping pitches.

Luis Rojas' original plan was for Seth Lugo to pitch the ninth inning tonight. But after getting hot and throwing six pitches in the eighth, Lugo returned to the dugout and was a little gassed. (He had thrown 37 pitches on Tuesday.) That's why Edwin Díaz got the ball.

A few postgame notes:
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) June 19, 2021
* Mets hoped to get 4 outs from Lugo, but he said he couldn't after finishing the eighth (Rojas noted he threw 37 pitches Tues.)
* Diaz & Rojas both were peeved at ball 4 call on Soto
* Rojas credited opposing pitching for Mets' 21-inning scoreless streak
Luis Rojas said the potential upcoming 10th inning extra runner and Juan Soto & Ryan Zimmerman coming up factored into bringing in Edwin Diaz into a tied game in the 9th

Jacob deGrom (right shoulder soreness) is playing long toss, a step up from simple catch yesterday.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) June 18, 2021
Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner is watching closely. Head athletic trainer Brian Chicklo is watching less closely.
All signs continue to point to deGrom being fine.
Jacob deGrom is in the visiting bullpen at Nationals Park right now throwing off a mound. So, going through his regular between-starts routine.

Luis Rojas says there are "a lot of candidates" to pitch Game 2 of their doubleheader tomorrow behind David Peterson in Game 1.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) June 18, 2021
Jerad Eickhoff and Yennsy Díaz are on the Mets' taxi squad, making them candidates. Rojas has previously mentioned Sean Reid-Foley and Robert Gsellman.
Brandon Nimmo might go on a rehab assignment next week, Luis Rojas said.

Megill pitched well enough against a tough line up.
McNeil should be called back now. We need offense.
Soto was strike 3.
Joey Lucchesi has been…brilliant.
Tom - was thinking the same about McNeil. I also like Mason Williams over Almora based on Williams' speed but figure Williams will be the first to go.
