12-15-22 - 2023 MLB Mock Draft:
2. Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
I've literally seen people compare Dollander to the top pitchers in today's game. We don't always see the top pitchers turn into those types of studs. But he's got all the makings of a star pitcher.
Dollander has an excellent command to go with his incredible arsenal of pitches. He's the top pitcher in the draft, and there are no questions about it.

https://motorcitybengals.com/posts/detroit-tigers-draft-talk-chase-dollander-worth-considering
Dollander is 21 years old and has spent the last two seasons at the collegiate level. According to Perfect Game USA, he went undrafted out of high school, where he played prep ball as a top-tier right-handed arm in Georgia.
He ended up at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., where he spent his freshman season. He pitched in 12 games, 11 of them being starts. He pitched to a 4.04 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP and was able to punch out 64 opposing hitters over 49 innings pitched.

4. Texas Rangers: Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
Dollander profiles as a front-of-the-rotation starter and still has some projection left. There’s high-90’s heat here with an excellent slider and he should be the best pitcher in the country this year. Chris Young hasn’t been shy about taking college pitching recently.

Take a casual look at Chase Dollander and you’ll see a few similarities to Jacob deGrom, including his pitching motion. The 6-foot-3 righty is a long way from ever becoming one of the best starting pitchers of our generation, but he flashes ace-caliber stuff. Dollander’s fastball can hit 99 mph multiple times per game and averages in the mid-90s with outstanding arm speed. He also brings a wicked curveball and a slider that can devastate opposing hitters. With “plus” tools across the board, he’d be an excellent addition for a Washington Nationals organization that needs arms.

2. Washington Nationals: Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
Tennessee has always had a fine program. In the last few years, they’ve been a top-10 program. While hitters are always popping out of there, this season, all eyes are on ace righty Chase Dollander. Some say Dollander represents the best college arm available in any draft since Stephen Strasburg. His slider sits at the top of his class and his overall big league arsenal challenges modern day development and asks the question: could he pitch in the majors right now?

Almost too good to be true for Dollander to get here for the Rangers as they stockpile another frontline SEC starter and what might be the best collegiate arm since 2011 (Gerrit Cole).

2. Washington Nationals
Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
Not only is Dollander the cream of the crop in terms of college pitching this spring, he’s a metric-darling with unicorn traits that can be extremely tough to find. He checks a lot of boxes. Projection, production, performance and unique data. Dollander has a shot at becoming a frontline starter at the next level with an upper-90s fastball and a plus to double-plus slider. He mixes in an above average changeup that has been un-hittable for lefty bats. If he can repeat his 2022 in the SEC next season, he’s got 1.1 upside. He screams Washington Nationals too. There is a rich history of big conference, big performer starting pitchers going to Washington in the first round.

3. Kansas City Royals | Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
This will be the first draft for the Royals under new leadership and they’ll likely have their pick at a top arm or prep on the board. Dollander is the best college arm to come out of the draft since probably Casey Mize and fits the moniker of an arm that offers upside along with the ability to move quickly. He’ll live in the upper-90s and has four distinct pitches, all effective weapons. Dollander will likely be scrutinized heavily, but he’s got the talent to potentially be the first overall pick. -Vinnie Cervino

Junior right-handed pitcher Chase Dollander is the Vols' most touted prospect on this year's team and was ranked No. 2 overall on the list. New Tennessee shortstop Maui Ahuna came in at No. 17 after transferring from Kansas in June, while utility man Jared Dickey rounded out the potential day one picks for the Vols at No. 23, respectively. Junior outfielder Kyle Booker was the fourth Vol on the list at No. 80.
Dollander was the SEC Pitcher of the Year last season after transferring from Georgia Southern. He went 10-0 with an ERA of 2.39 in 14 starts in his first season with the Vols on his way to becoming a consensus All-American. Over 79.0 innings of work, Dollander walked just 13 hitters, struck out 108 and only allowed opponents to hit .175 off of him.

3. Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee – With a repeatable 3/4 slot delivery that has led to advanced command in his sophomore season, it is the fastball that really stands out. It sits 94-95 but can touch 99 with plenty of tail to the arm side with a good downhill plane. To go with that he mixes in a two-plane slider with bump in it that can sit 87. While some have called it the best breaking ball in the class, the consistency in it isn’t there for me yet as it can look average at times. He also has a 12-6 curve that is pretty pedestrian currently but shows plenty of potential and he breaks out the occasional change.

I spent the last three weeks talking to scouting directors and cross-checkers about Tennessee RHP Chase Dollander. One theme became clear:
Chase Dollander is special.
He's being talked about with the likes of Gerrit Cole and Steven Strasburg.
Tennessee righthander Chase Dollander might represent the best college arm available in any draft since Strasburg. Armed with a fastball approaching triple digits, arguably the best slider in the class, and now the weaponization of a curveball and changeup, Dollander has big league stuff right now. And there’s more coming.
10-25-22 - Brian Recca @brian_recca
People will say "it needs to be the right team for a pitcher to go 1st overall." That's backwards. It takes the right PITCHER to go first overall. And right now the evidence is pointing towards Dollander being that type of pitcher. Strasburg, Cole, etc.

2023 MLB DRAFT - TOP 200 PROSPECTS -
1. Chase Dollander
Right-Handed Pitcher, Tennessee
Dollander is the real deal. It's a buttery delivery with a low-launch, three-quarter arm slot and electric arm speed. Some evaluators have compared the way he moves to Jacob deGrom.
The fastball eats. It’s got ride, run and immense deception. He can run it up to 99 mph and he'll hold mid-90's throughout his outings. Dollander mixes in a bevy of pitches, but it's his tight-spinning, sweeping slider that gets whiffs. Some scouts project it double-plus and the best breaking ball in the class. Dollander offers a big, high-70's curveball with huge sweep, though he's hardly had to use it.
He'll also show the occasional changeup, but it's largely tertiary at this point. As if the pure stuff wasn't enough, Dollander has premium command, pitch-ability, athleticism and polish. Pretty much the complete package and the argument can be made he's the best college pitching prospect in over a decade.

2. Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
While there's some debate about the top position player in the college class, Dollander is clearly the best pitcher. In his first season at Tennessee after transferring from Georgia Southern, he captured SEC pitcher of the year honors by going 10-0 with a 2.39 ERA and a 108/13 K/BB ratio in 79 innings. He throws strikes with four pitches, the best of which are a mid-90s fastball that reaches 99 mph with carry and a mid-80s slider that touches 91.

2. Chase Dollander
Right-Handed Pitcher, Tennessee
Dollander thrived in Tennessee's rotation after transferring from Georgia Southern, posting a breakout season for Tony Vitello and the Volunteers. It's a buttery delivery with a low three-quarters arm slot and electric arm speed. The fastball is a menace up in the zone, with great vertical ride and misses bats aplenty coming out of a low-launch slot. It gets up to 99 MPH and he'll hold mid-90's throughout outings.
He'll mix in a bevy of pitches, primarily a tight-spinning slider and a fading change-up in the high-80's, with a high-70's curveball mainly utilized to steal strikes early in counts. As if the pure stuff wasn’t enough, Dollander has premium command as well. There's a lot to like about this arm and he represents one of the better pitching ceilings we’ve seen in a couple years.
