Former A’s Hurler Montas is One Piece of “Help” - We Hope.
Well, maybe not, after he got obliterated vs. AAAA caliber opposition on Sunday.
QUESTION: HOW EXACTLY IS THAT COMPETITION GOING?
Sunday, as the New York Rockies got smoked for the third straight game by Pitts Puke, the three “fierce competitors” - Vientos, Baty, and Mauricio - went 0 for 10. All 3 are hitting in the .220s. 460 combined at bats, .225.
Mauricio edged out the other two on Sunday by drawing a walk. Some heck of a competition by these three.
No, fellas, it is not the “who can be the most impotent” contest. The bats are meant to be used to generate base hits.
It is to be clear not a “be gentle to baseballs” competition.
I hope this clarification helps you three wannabes. Carry on.
But not to worry.
The next two teams the Mets face off with are a combined 23 games above .500. Easy breezy.
And Travis Jankowski, it has been reported, will head the starting rotation after being fully stretched out in his outing on Sunday. His primary qualification is that he has not strained an oblique nor torn a lat or hamstring muscle or major tendon. Good enough for me.
There is NO (ZERO) JOY IN METSVILLE.
And i wonder, is Lindor’s toe causing his Hitting Siberia, and if so, should he sit and heal? The Captain of the Titanic didn’t want to sit, either. We saw how that worked out.
Lastly, Jesse Winker doubled (off the top of the wall in left center) and walked in his Brooklyn rehabber on Sunday - then of course was hit by a pitch and left the game. Please let it not have hit his pinky toe. I believe thankfully that he’s fine.
FINALLY…FINALLY….ON TO MY PLANNED ARTICLE:
“Where does my help come from?”
“My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.”
- Psalm 121, written by King David 3,000 years ago.
Now….Fast-forward 3,000 years.
Where does today’s ”King David” of the Mets, David Stearns, get his help?
- From the minors, trades - and probably beseeching prayer, too.
These two players below, plus Sean Manaea, appear to be on the early to late JULY horizon timeline - and the pitching-rich suddenly turned pitching-downright-deficient Mets need all the help they can get from these 2 currentsick bay patients, and from Manaea and the pictured Frankie Montas.
1) RHP Tylor Megill

Expected return: Mid- to late July

2) LHP Brooks Raley
Injury: Recovery from Tommy John surgery
IL date: April 29 (transferred to 60-day IL on April 30)
Expected return: Mid-July

TWO PLAYERS I AM SURPRISED ARE NOT YET NEW YORK METS
Falter and Junk.
That is, Bailey Falter and Janson Junk. Perfect names for the Mets.
“YO, ADRIAN”? ROCKY II IN QUEENS?
I will admit, I hated Adrian Houser with the Mets last year. He was a key negative contributor to the early 2024 tailspin, where the Mets went 12-8 to start the season, then lost an incredible 27 of their next 39. He got dumped. I was happy.
The White Sox in 2025 are going nowhere. Why not swallow some Mets pride and trade for the resurgent Adrian Houser?
In 43 MLB innings in 2025, he is 3-2, 1.90.
Yep, the guy I hated has a 1.90 ERA.
SO, READERS, SHOULD WE SWALLOW OUR PRIDE AND GET HIM BACK?
HE’S BASICALLY SUCKED ALL YEAR, BUT…
Brandon Sproat didn’t suck in his latest AAA start.
He threw 6 shutout IP on 2 hits on Saturday. Will he get called up?
Sometimes, things can change for the better for a prospect in a NY minute.
Maybe this is one of those minutes.
EVERYBODY LOVES RAIMON
You remember the 104.5 MPH guy, Raimon Gomez?
He’s healthy in 2025, after missing almost all of 2023 and 2024, and starting to rock and roll in Brooklyn.
In June, he has thrown 9 innings, through Friday, and allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, 1 run, and fanned 13.
So, dear reader, start tuning to 104.5 FM. The station signal is being boosted, and you likely will start to pick it up, louder and louder.
I am already hearing Radio Raimon on 104.5 FM. Sizzling content.
WHOPPER YUNIOR
SS Yunior Amparo had another decidedly dandy game. He is hitting a lusty .432/.532/.784 with 3 HRs, 10 RBIs, and 6 steals in 47 pro plate appearances in the DSL.
My other guy Josmir Reyes has fanned 3 times in 63 PAs, and is .419/.492/.583.

Despite the Crow-Armstrong memory, it may be time for David Stearns to open the minor league vault to interested trade partners for nearly anyone not named McLean, Tong, Williams or Benge. Nearly everyone else should be on the table while we await advancement from the lower levels.
1. Boston
2. Raley
3. Baltimore
4. Bonilla
5. Colorado
Mack, we traded Crow once. If we had him, this collapse wouldn’t be happening. I do not mind blockbuster trades. But ones that will damage the franchise, I do.
They better not trade, for example, Ewing or Benge. Two future hitting starters. Anyone, like Ewing, who can steal 50 bases in 67 games is not only highly talented….he is a warrior. We are losing in part because too many Mets, as is always the case, are wimps, not warriors. I want warriors.
Break it down. Trade everyone or anyone on the major league roster. Including Soto, you know Stearns really never wanted him. Start from scratch. this is what Stearns really wanted to do from the beginning. We would have done it 2 years ago, but we went on a historical run.
"Future hitting ...
How has that worked in the m past?
Developing MAJOR.LEAGUE players is always a crap shoot
Trading for established veterans that already have proven they can is NOT a crap shoot
Go get that third baseman from Colorado
Go get that reliever from Boston
Go get that starter from Miami
Mortgage the farm
Honestly Mack, not very well. But I can't bear looking at these guys any longer...BE GONE.
Maybe Peterson complete game shutout wasn’t such a good idea. Reminds me of Santanas no hitter
If we are going to trade why not go big game hunting and get Bregman from Boston. Don't want McMahon from Colorado, he's not doing any better than Baty.
Boston will rape us for Chapman.
Would love Sandy A from Miami.
As long as we keep trotting out Taylor and Torrenz in the middle of the order we are screwed. They are both #9 hitters.
My guess is that David Stearns has been exploring every one of the ideas above (except Soto). Where he sees value, he will strike. He should not, and will not have a fire sale. This team will recover.
I discussed Bregman: with a Mets insider. Said "you just can't keep signing every expensive contract."
Unfortunately, Paul I am not as optimistic as you. Sure, the Mets will recover to some degree. At some point they will go on a bit of a run, that is if everything falls in place.
If Senga comes back as Senga. Manaea comes back as the second half version of himself. If Montas doesn't suck. If Peterson returns to form. If the baby Mets hit over .230. ...Yada, yada, yada.
That's a lot of ifs.
Mack, I agree but with Bregman he can opt out after this year or it's only 2 more years. By then maybe Soto will opt out (fingers crossed) and we can build a real team
How bout Mauricio,Gilbert and Thornton for Severino?
Joe
I want to build this team around Soto, Pete, and Lindor
Mack, you know what I said before is a moment of insanity. It would never happen. The core you mention would be fine if we can keep Pete. Everyone else goes...lol.
This has always been an iffy team, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Sproat,Gilbert,Acunaand Mauricio for Sandy A?
You are freaking joking, right?
